Full Job Description JOB
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assigned in an on-going temporary capacity as a substitute teacher, instructional assistant or support staff for an established period of time. Carries on in place of the absent teacher, instructional assistant or support staff, and manages daily plans related to the assigned position. May fill in as needed for one or more days in the same position and maintains the duties of the assigned position on an ongoing temporary basis. This position is responsible for performing the most critical and necessary functions assigned to the absent employee's job description.ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Follows the teacher’s written lesson plans; consults with the principal and or administrative staff to resolve questions, concerns or before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the absent teacher;Complies with all building procedures and schedules; promotes the proper use and care of school property;Teacher scheduled classes; prepares a written summary of work completed; communicates special situations or problems encountered with absent teacher;Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures;Promotes a favorable image of the school division; Implements effective pupil management procedures; maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code;Develops and maintains a positive learning environment; stimulates student interest; Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles;Provides guidance, communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress; facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving and creativity skills;Works cooperatively with school staff;Incorporates the effective use of technology in records management and instructional activities; upholds computer technology acceptable use policies;Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time;Respects personal privacy. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information;Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division’s policies and practices.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to assume all the duties and responsibilities of the regular teacher. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: High School diploma. Meets all mandated health requirements (i.e. a negative tuberculosis test, etc.) Documentation of clear criminal work record. Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies. Preferred: Bachelors/Masters Degree from accredited institution or minimum of 60+ credit hours.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, students and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Work is typically performed in a school setting including; classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be required. Occasional movement of students by wheel chairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Occasional contact with medial professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Substitutes are required to stay for the entire workday.
