BIOANALYTICAL INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The Bioanalytical Intern will help characterize the proteome of various ocular fluids and tissues from humans and animals to better understand the expression level of ocular hydrolytic enzymes. The results will help understand (i) pro-drug metabolism and polymer biodegradation in the eye, (ii) interspecies differences, and differences between healthy and diseased eyes, and (iii)improve the translation of non-clinical studies. To gain additional insight into the role of these enzymes, the intern may also conduct in vitro studies that investigate metabolism of various drugs and biodegradable polymers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Develop and apply state-of-the-art analytical tools including liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) systems in an industrial pharmaceutical R&D setting
Have a basic understanding of LC/MS quantitation and proteomics workflows.
Contribute to developing and characterizing novel in vitro models relevant to ocular drug development
Assist in designing and executing experiments
Analyze and interpret data
Present data/results to department and/or project teams
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or other related fields.
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Experience performing hands-on laboratory work
Eagerness to learn in collaborative, fast paced environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with bioanalytical tools and software used in proteomics and protein analysis
