Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The Department of Large Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Georgia invites applications for a 1-year mentored position in large animal emergency and critical care , start date flexible between July 15- August 1, 2023.
This employee will support the function of the large animal emergency and critical care service. The service is run under the supervision of three faculty (all diplomates of emergency and critical care and surgery) and is a 24 hour/7 day/week service. The service is supported by a resident in emergency and critical care, residents in medicine and surgery, and rotating interns as well as hospital staff and students. The primary responsibilities of this position are divided between providing care for animals presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and teaching veterinary students, interns, and residents involved with the emergency and critical care cases. The successful candidate will be expected to be on duty ~5 shifts per week-where shifts will include weekday, weeknight, and weekends-to admit emergencies and manage inpatients on the service with direct back-up by one of the faculty on service.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• DVM or equivalent degree.
• Post- DVM clinical experience including the completion of an equine or large animal surgery residency approved by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
• Significant experience and comfort with diagnosis and treatment of emergency diseases.

• Normal working conditions for a veterinary environment.
• Lift 50 lbs.

• Participate in clinical teaching of veterinary students, interns and residents.
• Participate primarily in the department's relevant large animal emergency critical care rotations.
• A small amount of classroom and laboratory teaching in veterinary student courses will also be expected.
• Instructional responsibilities will be primarily under the supervision of the two emergency and critical care clinicians.
