Preferred Qualifications
UHC Additional Requirements: Associate's degree or greater in an informatics related field or specialty or an associate's degree in another field with the equivalent of a degree in informatics or related field through training and work experiences. A minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of clinical informatics providing configuration, maintenance, and reporting services for a vendor-supported EHR in a clinical setting. Requires a minimum of 2 years' experience analyzing clinical and administrative workflows, interpreting data, working collaboratively in teams, and implementing new solutions in complex work environments that include clinical, business services, and information service professionals.
Position Summary
The Clinical Informatics Specialist ( CIS ) is responsible for collaboratively supporting the health information needs of the University of Georgia Health Center ( UHC ) mission. The UHC provides primary healthcare to students and eligible members of the University of Georgia community. The range of clinical environments spans medical (primary, musculoskeletal, and gynecological), behavioral health (counseling and psychiatric), dental, allergy/travel, physical and massage therapy, health promotion, optometric, nutrition, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacologic care and services. The UHC manages the majority of the day-to-day operational needs with the UHC Electronic Health Record ( EHR ) and UHC Practice Management (PM) platforms. The UHC EHR and PM are components of a fully implemented suite of applications developed by "Point and Click Solutions" (PnC). Multiple other interfaces exist in support of information systems specific to services such as the Lab, Radiology, Dental, and Vision Clinic. Under the direction of the Clinical Informatics Manager ( CIM ), the CIS will be responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting clinical documentation templates, decision support tools, integration of clinical workflows, quality monitoring, process evaluation, and the stewarding the continuously evolving clinical IT environment. The specialist will also be involved with building and maintaining reports using the PnC report writer application. Fundamental to the CIS role is liaising between various clinical, administrative, financial/support, and IT staff.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• General knowledge of Health Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance principles including working in teams, PDSA improvement cycles, data collection, data interpretation, and workflow analysis.
• Knowledge of Electronic Health Record use, configuration, implementation, support, and user education.
• General knowledge of relational database structure, data dictionaries, and report writing.
• General knowledge of health vocabularies including Current Procedural Terminology ( CPT ) and International Statistical Classification of Disease - Clinical Modification 10 ( ICD -CM-10).
• Broad skills in professional presentation and using presentation software.
• Demonstrable skill in EHR clinical documentation template design and clinical order-set design.
• Demonstrable skills using MS-Office applications including MS-Word, MS-PowerPoint, SharePoint, and MS-Excel.
• Skills with data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Excel, or Tableau) are highly desirable but not required.

Software Maintenance and Design: Under the direction of the CIM , the specialist will design new clinical documentation, clinical decision support tools, clinical order sets, and quality improvement reports. Following approval, the CIS will implement and support new PnC functionality and assess functionality effectiveness.

Training and Staff Development: The CIS will play a key role in UHC staff orientation and in the training of new users specific to PnC software in concert with other trainers who may be more focused on specialized skills. A major contributor to the maintenance of the general user knowledgebase and competency on an annual basis as well as ad hoc when significant software changes occur or a new process or functionality is introduced. Maintain personal competency in informatics and attends continuing education, PNC user group, or similar education opportunities.

Duties/Responsibilities
Administrative Duties: The specialist will routinely collaborate with members of the clinical, finance and support, information services, and administrative staff to develop insights into care processes, identify and develop quality improvement strategies, and implement new functionality in the PnC suite of applications. This will occur directly or through membership on standing or ad hoc committees. Will regularly participate in clinical quality improvement meetings and activities.

Service as a Member of the IT Team: Assist with the definition and achievement of the goals of the IT department as they pertain to clinical relationships. Offer consultative and direct service for issues pertinent to clinical service through the help desk managed by client support. Work with the assistant director and systems administrators by offering clinical insight to system performance or network design. Support Joint Commission compliance as appropriate where the provision of care interfaces with technological support.
