QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
·         Hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate with 3 years of teaching experience
·         Hold a valid Kentucky Principal Certificate or Statement of Eligibility
Preferred :
·         Knowledge of Best Practices in instruction
·         Demonstrated leadership
·         Knowledge of assessment and accountability
·         Skills to analyze school/student data and make data-driven decisions
Knowledge Of:
·         Best Practices in classroom management and disciplinary strategies
·         Strong presentation and communication skills
·         Evidence of successful teamwork and collaboration
·         Ability to communicate with students, parents and staff productively with a focus on problem solving
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
The Dean of Students in Daviess County Public Schools is responsible for working with the principal, assistant principal(s), guidance counselors, Family Resource and Youth Service Center (FRYSC) Coordinator, teachers, parents and students to fulfill duties and responsibilities of service for success.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
· To support the staff, students and parents to solve and decrease disciplinary issues
·  Working with staff to identify root causes of student misbehavior and develop appropriate staff responses
· Working with students to develop social skills and coping skills to use when interacting with other students and staff members
· Working with parents to support positive and appropriate behavior at school and home
· Provide support for school personnel concerning behavior intervention strategies and classroom management strategies for individual students, for classrooms and for school wide application
· Meet regularly with students involved in disciplinary issues to identify root cause and help the student learn new behavior or coping skills
· Communicate with parents/family regarding behavior issues, consequences and solutions to avoid similar issues in the future
· Assists administrators, counselors, teachers, staff, and students with behavior needs by observing specific students, making recommendations, modeling strategies and working with students and parents on appropriate social skills
· Mediates differences between home and school
· Works with disciplinary issues from all staff including transportation department to solve problems and develop appropriate social & coping skills for students and staff
· Communication of school-wide rules and expectations to students, parents and staff
· Supervision and discipline of students (instructs students in appropriate behavior & disciplines students in accordance with school & district policy and state law)
· Attendance reviews & attendance meetings (works collaboratively with YSC Coordinator & district representative to address attendance issues & improve student attendance)
·  Classroom observations focused on classroom management & student behavior - provides recommendations and suggestions for improvement
· Recruiting, interviewing and hiring new staff members
· Assists in assigning duties to faculty and staff as appropriate to provide safe and secure school environment
· Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with school & district policies and state laws
·  Receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies and law enforcement (responds to and resolves parent, student and staff concerns and complaints)
· Monitors students before school, during class change, lunch and other activities
· Supervises activities, including evening activities as assigned
· Collaborates with other administrative team members to develop emergency situation plans and complete emergency drills
· Participates in administrative meetings (school and district level)
· Chairs/leads the PBIS Committee

Work Environment:
( ex. Indoor, environmentally controlled.  Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises.  May require working with or near the public, parents, and children and will be subject to sounds, scents, and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.)

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel. The evaluation will be conducted by the Principal.
