Position Summary
The University of Georgia's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences ( CAES ) is seeking an experienced individual to provide leadership for the team-based research programs and outreach efforts at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park ( SIRP ), a Research and Education Center ( REC ) located near Camilla, GA. The SIRP research facility is located in southwestern Georgia and is one of eight RECs that are located throughout the state. Major agronomic crops in the area include corn, cotton, peanuts, and soybeans, while key horticultural crops include sweetcorn, blueberries and, more recently, citrus.
The facility is intentionally located in the lower Flint River basin of the state - a region with abundant water resources supporting an extensive on-farm irrigation infrastructure across the region. The Stripling Irrigation Research Park utilizes both traditional and experimental precision ag technologies to carry out the mission of the Park, including Variable-Rate Irrigation ( VRI ), advanced irrigation scheduling tools, remote monitoring, and GPS auto-guidance systems.
The incumbent will plan, organize, supervise, and participate in the day-to-day operations of the Research and Education Center and will be responsible for developing policies and procedures for the management and operation of the Research and Education Center, including facilities, equipment, management of commercial crop production and sales, budget development and prioritization, research center personnel management, and the development and/or enhancement of education, outreach and public relations activities.
The superintendent is the liaison between the Research and Education Center, CAES researchers, and CAES Extension. The superintendent facilitates research and outreach projects in cooperation with faculty. The incumbent will report to the CAES Assistant Dean for Research.
This position involves use of a P-Card.

Physical Demands
Lift up to 60 lbs., walk or stand for extended periods on uneven terrain and access heights. Manual dexterity, stoop, kneel, climb stairs and work on tall equipment (harvesters, irrigation systems, etc.). Use hand tools, work with and around pesticides, plant materials, in dusty environments, and in extreme weather conditions. Work varied schedules according to the needs of the REC . May need to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Driving to perform job related duties.

Project Management: Coordinate with research and Extension faculty to initiate, develop, and execute research projects according to faculty research protocols, CAES policies and procedures.
Involves managing multiple research projects simultaneously from non-resident faculty representing a wide range of academic departments and disciplines, actively planning and communicating to ensure that research protocols are implemented correctly, and leading, organizing, and generating independent research.

Physical Plant Management: Manage field operations pertaining to all facets of crop production in a timely and efficient manner. Oversees the maintenance, repair, and security of the physical plant including equipment, buildings, fences, grounds, and landscaping.
Includes meeting budgetary and financial requirements to operate the enterprise. Develop and execute short and long term plans for the acquisition, repair, and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment. Utilize current CAES recommendations and best management practices for crop production.

Education, Outreach, and Public Relations: Provide educational and outreach programming to diverse groups. Promote the REC by developing good public relations, both internal and external to the CAES .
Includes promoting the use of the facility for conducting research and demonstration projects that address local needs, communicating and fostering positive relationships with staff, faculty, administration, Extension personnel, and the area ag community, as well as leading, organizing, and generating independent educational and outreach-related materials and associated activities for both ag and non-ag groups.

Personnel Management: Recruit, develop, supervise, and organize part-time and full-time employees to achieve short and long term goals for the unit.
Includes communicating short term and long term goals and policies for the Research and Education Center, conducting annual performance evaluations, resolving disputes, mentoring and identifying professional development and training opportunities for staff. Promote and implement a culture of team work, diversity, and sustainability.

Policy Management: Develop and enforce station policies, procedures, and protocols for the management and operation of the REC including facilities, equipment, management of commercial crop production and sales. Adhere to and promote UGA policies regarding finances, ethics, safety, and research procedures.
Includes maintaining necessary records, licenses and certifications, the promotion and use of the Farm Project Request Form, and following Worker Protection Standard guidelines.
