Carpenter Technology Corporation is a leading producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys, including titanium alloys, nickel and cobalt based superalloys, stainless steels, alloy steels and tool steels.  Carpenter’s high-performance materials and advanced process solutions are an integral part of critical applications used within the aerospace, transportation, medical and energy markets, among other markets.  Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter’s wrought and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing.METALLURGIST - Vacuum Induction MeltPOSITION SUMMARY - Technology metallurgist at Carpenter Technology provide a diverse range of technical product or process services to our internal and external customers.  This position provides technical support to all aspects of Vacuum Induction Melt operations.PRIMARY DUTIESThe successful candidate is responsible for ensuring quality of heats by timely melt record review, verification of adherence to procedures, and frozen practice agreements with customers. Responsible for new procedure development and process optimization through application of process management and standardized work philosophy, establishment of meaningful CPV's and process tests, and variation reduction.Evaluation and qualification of new raw material/refractory sources, specification review for new products, and participation in problem solving customer technical issues related to melting.This position will interact with operations, technical, R&D, purchasing, and quality personnel as well as providing technical support during customer audits. REQUIRED FOR THE Metallurgist – Staff SpecialistFour year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field; advanced degree preferred for R&D.Typically 10 or more years of experience, combined with consistently strong performance.Working knowledge of MS Office - including Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.Experience applying SPC, Six Sigma and BPI tools in the search for the elimination of manufacturing process inefficiencies.Experience initiating programs and projects, driving results on schedule and anticipating and mitigating risks.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Goal driven and self-directed.Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas.PREFERRED FOR THE Metallurgist - Staff SpecialistAbility to identify and predict future needs for alloy development and identify potential new products, processes and partners as well as champion innovative new ideas.Ability to make significant individual contribution to attainment of team objectives.Ability to travel on a limited basis.Collaboration - work with management to develop and implement strategic plans or the company.  Provide support, leadership and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and opportunities. Proactively and independently mentor others.Customer Focus -  provide training and education to key customers.
