Position Summary To assist with and perform field surveys and construction inspection for various construction and drainage projects within the County. Help prepare and design road construction plans and specifications according to State and Federal standards. Assist with performing annual bridge and pavement maintenance inspections.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Assist with and conduct field surveys and related computer work.
• Perform construction staking for County projects.
• Plan preparation and related computer work.
• Construction inspection.
• Materials inspection and sampling.
• Assist with documentation of construction projects.
• Assist with annual bridge inspections.
• Assist with annual pavement inspections and computer updates.
• Staking of signing and maintenance projects.
• Clean and repair equipment.
• Update county survey records.
• Assist with snowplow operations as assigned by Engineer.
• Other duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications Engineering Instrument Technician I
Education/Experience:
• Completion of a two-year course in Civil Engineering Technology; OR
• High School diploma with four years’ experience; to include at least two years computer aided design software experience.
• Preferably three years experience working for a Federal/State/County/City Highway/Public Works department, an engineering consultant or a road contractor.
• Ability to communicate orally and in written form with contractors, fellow workers and the public.
Requirements:
• Valid MN driver’s license required.
• Must be able to comprehend and apply principles in trigonometry, geometry, modern algebra and advanced statistical history.
• Must be able to understand both English and Metric units of measure.
• Must obtain and maintain necessary licenses and certifications.
Engineering Instrument Technician II
Education/Experience: • Completion of a two-year course in Civil Engineering Technology; OR
• High School diploma with five years’ experience.
• Technical certifications include State certifications in Level I & II in Bituminous Street Inspections, Concrete Field Inspection, Grading & Base Inspection, Concrete Plant Inspection, Bituminous Plant Inspection and Erosion Control Certifications.
• Five years working for a Federal/State/County/City Highway/Public Works department, engineering consultant or road contractor performing surveys, construction inspection and CAD design.
• Ability to communicate orally and in written form with contractors, fellow workers and the public.

Grade 8 - Engineering Instrument Technician I entry hourly wage range of $27.32 to $30.63, DOQ. * With a full earning potential of $38.50 per hour dependent on qualifications and experience.
Grade 9 - Engineering Instrument Technician II entry hourly wage range of $28.68 to $32.16, DOQ. * With a full earning potential of $40.42 per hour dependent on qualifications and experience.
