Job Title: Dual Language and ESL Instructional Coach (K-12) Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Department/School: Curriculum and Instruction Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Table (202 days)
Plus bilingual stipend (If Bilingual certified)
Reports to: Executive Director of C&I and Director of Dual Language & LOTE
Summary:
The primary purpose of an instructional coach is to collaborate with teachers to build their capacity as effective educators in a learning platform. The Coach leads the implementation of dual language and ESL programs and curriculum development as well as the district curriculum delineated in LEAD 2021/LEAD 2.0. This position also enhances the quality of dual language and ESL instruction using formative and summative assessment data for instructional decision-making. Coaches will support campus administrators in data analysis, instructional accountability, and the RtI process. In addition, coaches will design and deliver job-embedded professional learning to campus staff and assist in developing the district curriculum.
Qualifications/Minimum Education/Certification:
• Minimum of three years experience as a successful teacher in a bilingual classroom required
• Bilingual certification preferred
• Advanced degree preferred
• Fluent in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking)
• Instructional Specialist/Coaching experience preferred
• Thorough understanding of the research-based instruction for Emergent Bilingual Students
• Ability to speak and write effectively and establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents
• Evidence of campus/district leadership
• Experience with facilitating quality staff development
• Experience with curriculum development
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Resource Provider – Design and deliver high-quality professional learning to support the instruction of emergent bilingual students
• Instructional Specialist – Work collaboratively with staff to ensure implementation and alignment of the bilingual and ESL programs
• Learning Facilitator – Provide ongoing program implementation support for individual teachers that includes observing, providing feedback, and supporting the delivery of research-based instruction for Emergent bilinguals
• Catalyst for Change – To create disequilibrium with the current state as an impetus to explore alternatives to current practice
• Data Coach – To ensure that student achievement data drives instructional discussions at the classroom and school level
• Curriculum Specialist – To design district curriculum and support its implementation
• Classroom Supporter – To increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction
• Mentor – To increase the instructional skills of the novice teacher
• School Leader – To work collaboratively with the school’s formal leadership to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results
• Learner – To model continuous learning, to keep current, and to be a thought leader in the school
Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district-wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
