Job Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or nursing professional, in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing delegation and supervision guidelines, the Emergency Room EMT-I/P assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. These include assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support, and performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed. Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and data collection as pertinent to the patient population. • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, MD, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure
• Observes, records, and reports conditions in the EMR Utilizes excellent communication skills in dealing with staff, peers, patients and family members in diverse situations.
• Keeps current on treatment techniques, protocol changes, material and equipment. Takes responsibility for own actions and those of support team members. Coordinates activities with external entities if needed.
• Transports patients in hospital observing safety guidelines. Maintains advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities.
• Maintains continuing education requirements by National, State, and Carilion standards.
• Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care.  As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors and other employees.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical program in paramedic studies preferred.
Experience: One year of EMT-I or Paramedic experience required.
Licensure/Certification: Certified in the State of Viginia as an EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic and maintains National Registered status (preferred). AHA BLS - HCP, and ACLS required. PALS, Haz Mat Awareness, NRP and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.
Other: Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by State and National standards.
