This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns. For a population that progressively lives longer, ocular diseases can significantly compromise quality of life. AbbVie is the leader in drug and treatment development for eye diseases. Statisticians in the Eyecare Clinical Statistics group have the opportunity to work on various statistical questions. Some of the statistical challenges come from the potential correlations between two eyes and the difficulty in conducting a fully masked clinical trial. Statisticians in Eyecare constantly explore innovative trial design and analysis methods to provide better answers to the intended scientific questions in clinical trials. The Intern will work on a new Bayesian hierarchical modeling approach that can help borrow information more efficiently in a clinical trial conducted in multiple diseases with two different performance targets for each indication. The goal of the Bayesian modeling is to achieve better decision-making by introducing more information into the decision process. This is a good opportunity for graduate students to learn the general drug development process and to gain hands-on experience to solve a specific statistical question that have impact beyond Eyecare area. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:** - Conduct literature reviews - Conduct simulations independently - Develop R package for intern project and prepare tutorial documents - Present key findings and insights **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** - Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field - Must be enrolled in university during the internship period - Research experience in Bayesian modeling - Strong background in R programming - Experience in R package development **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** - Expected graduation date between August 2023 and December 2025 - Exposure to clinical trial design **BENEFITS AND AMENITIES** - Competitive pay - Travel, transportation and lodging support for eligible students **EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY** At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
