Nonclinical Research Associate II
Aruna Bio is advancing a new class of cell-free biologics, exosomes, for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) and neurodegenerative disorders and leveraging our novel platform to optimize the delivery of RNAs, antibodies, genes, and small molecules. Through this platform, we strive to improve outcomes for neurodegenerative, genetic, and rare diseases. The company is currently seeking to fill the following position:
Responsibilities: •   Execute technical procedures under limited supervision, including but not limited to: o   Administer experimental therapeutics to rodents using multiple routes such as intravenous, intraperitoneal, intranasal, and subcutaneous o   Collect biological samples from laboratory animals (e.g. blood and tissues) o   Evaluate daily animal health while maintaining accurate, legible, and detailed records o   Assist in and/or perform rodent surgeries o   Process and analyze biological samples using techniques such as immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and qPCR •   Provide informal guidance to new and/or junior team members as a technical resource •   Perform routine, pre-operative, and post-operative care of rodents •   Complete rodent behavioral assessments and analyze behavioral data •   Perform literature searches and design pharmacology and toxicology studies with guidance •   Follow established protocols and maintain comprehensive documentation of research procedures meeting Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) •   Manage multiple tasks simultaneously with limited supervision •   Skillfully and accurately use a variety of equipment such as a pipettor, centrifuge, plate reader, hot bead sterilizer, microscope, anesthesia equipment, and behavioral apparatus •   Perform occasional work outside of the normal business hours, including weekend work •   Complete and maintain job-specific certification and/or training as provided •   Comply with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regulations and guidelines
Nonclinical Research Associate II The Nonclinical Research Associate II contributes to Research and Development (R&D) efforts at Aruna Bio with emphasis on evaluating neural exosomes as a potential treatment for neurological indications. This individual will work collegially as a part of a larger team while reporting to the Director of Nonclinical R&D. We are seeking a biologist or pharmaceutical scientist with significant in vivo research experience in rodents. This position will execute complex laboratory processes under limited supervision. The successful candidate will participate in in vivo pharmacology and toxicology studies at Aruna Bio by performing duties such as design research studies under direct guidance, assist during and/or perform surgeries, administer experimental therapeutics, conduct behavioral evaluations, collect and analyze biological samples, develop and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and organize and analyze data.
Qualifications: •   Nonclinical research experience such as tissue collections, test article administration, surgery, and/or behavioral testing in a small animal laboratory setting •   Basic benchtop laboratory experience such as pipetting, preparing reagents, and sterile technique •   Ability to use existing literature to adopt new techniques and design in vivo pharmacology and toxicology studies with guidance from supervisor •   Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment •   Emerging leadership skills such as identifying and correcting gaps in processes and coaching team members •   Exceptionally self-motivated and results-driven while demonstrating personal accountability •   Outstanding organizational and documentation skills with strict attention to detail •   Demonstrated calmness and clarity of thought under pressure •   Proven ability to multi-task and meet multiple high priority deadlines •   Strong written and verbal communication skills •   Proficient in data entry including programs/software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and GraphPad Education and experience: A bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, pharmaceutical science, or similar discipline with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a small animal laboratory is required, or a master’s degree with thesis research focused on a related field. Research experience in a neuroscience laboratory is preferred.
