The Controls Engineer provides engineering support to a polypropylene staple fiber production area (continuous and batch operation). The manufacturing facility is currently sold-out and undergoing a wealth of projects to boost capacity and improve efficiencies; Duties include day- to-day troubleshooting as well as project design and implementation.
This role is very hands-on, encompassing the full scope of change: identification of the need, aid in design and specification of instrumentation/equipment, coordination of vendors and contractors as needed, help with check-out and start-up, implementation of interlocks and control loops, and follow-up support. Working with and coordinating Operations and Maintenance personnel, Process Engineers, and outside vendors will be critical.
This is a high-visibility position that is full of opportunities to make a difference quickly. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and functional skills, anticipate and solve problems, and be driven by continuous improvement.

• Test, maintain, and modify existing systems and process needs to adapt to product mix
• Aid in designing and implementing new or replacement instruments and equipment
• Assist Plant and Process Engineers with the controls portion of capital projects
• Verify instrument and equipment selection is aligned with needs
• Aid in preparation and interpretation of controls-related schematics, drawings, and layouts
• Provide training to operators and technicians
• Assist in check-out and start-up of new and modified instrumentation and equipment
• Serve as on-site resource for systems engineering
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and SharePoint
• 3+ years of experience in manufacturing industry
• Experience with continuous and/or batch processes
• Knowledge of general control disciplines; plant systems listed:
• Advanced process control (APC)
• Distributed control systems (DCS) - Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7
• Programmable logic controllers (PLC) – Siemens
• Human Machine Interface (HMI)
• Capable of designing control loops, alarms, alerts, interlocks, system reports
• Experience with creation or review of loop sheets, instrument configuration, installation, wiring, and Control Systems Programming
• Ability to work autonomously and prioritize work to match area needs and company strategy
• Ability to work cross-functionally, anticipate needs, and provide expertise in all manner of data and reporting capabilities
• Initiative and eagerness to contribute and initiate programs that help achieve business and plant objectives
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in a 24/7 manufacturing facility
• Experience with Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7
• Experience working in virtualized environment (VMware and Hyper- V)
• Experience with SQL Database management
• Experience with enterprise systems (i.e. SAP)
