Job Description
Overall Purpose
The Community School Organizer is responsible for the implementation, integration, alignment and coordination of the community school strategy at the site level; developing a comprehensive community school engagement plan to ensure stakeholders are connected to schools, particularly those who historically have been under-represented in the process; ensuring parents and other community stakeholders have access to information and resources offered by CCSD; facilitating communication with parents and other community stakeholders to identify emerging needs and trends and share with district administration; coordinating and supporting programs that address the learning barriers for students; developing a system of support for students, families, and community members; and  implementing systems, procedures, and policies; monitoring and implementing projects

Essential Functions
• Attends school based meetings including all-staff, grade level, committees, school climate as determined appropriate by school administration for the purpose of collaborating.
• Conducts a needs assessment including the school staff and advisory board to identify opportunities to leverage community resources to support students and families for the purpose of ensuring alignment of programs and services, as well as create opportunities to identify and respond to emerging needs.
• Creates a system to collect and monitor data for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of partnerships and programs.
• Creates and convenes a Community School Advisory (e.g. parents, teachers, students, school administrators, local business leaders, and community members, etc.) for the purpose of identifying needs, guidance and collaboration in community school strategies.
• Engages parents/guardians as full partners in their school and the community at large using a community organizing framework for the purpose of conducting outreach, working alongside parent leaders to facilitate leadership training for other parents, supporting parent teams to accomplish goals of the school community, and recruiting parent leaders for the Community School Action Team.
• Identifies community resources and leverages partnerships for the purpose of bringing needed programs and services into the Community School.
• Nurtures supportive and collaborative relationships with Community School stakeholders for the purpose of identifying and meeting common goals
• Partners with and serves student populations in greatest need (e.g. students in need of additional academic supports, etc.) for the purpose of assisting families with barriers to accessing community supports and resources.
• Serves as on-site support during implementation of community school programs and services, including communication, preparation and logistics for the purpose of collaborating with the school partners.
• Acts as a liaison between community partners and school administration to secure appropriate space, resources, and recruitment of families and students within the school building for the purpose of implementing community school programs.
• Supports efforts to engage school district and community leaders as stakeholders in the development of a scaled-up system of Community Schools (e.g. written and verbal reports to school board and other stakeholder groups, representing Community Schools at various meetings and committees, and other opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in building broad external support for Community Schools.
• Works with the CCSD Equity and Student Support teams to align community school strategies with the District’s equity statement and initiatives for the purpose of ensuring that partnerships have an equity focus in service delivery.
• Works closely with the Community School Action Team, school leadership, and Director of Community School for the purpose of planning and implementing programs and services that are appropriately aligned to the goals for the Community School. Examples include Adult ESL classes, School-based Health Clinic, Parent Universities, and Community Organization Professional Learning.
• Works with school staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders such as local businesses, nonprofit partners, and public agencies to build knowledge about, connections with, and support for CCSD’s community school model for the purpose of effectively implementing the community school program, business representatives, community members, clergy and more) through multiple methods including electronic communications, one-on-one and small group meetings, presentations, community sessions and other strategies.
• Supports and extends school communications to ensure critical information flows to parents and community members and back to school leadership, including online organizing tools and social media.
• Implements a menu of high-quality programs and services that are responsive to the needs of school families, with the goal of making positive gains in child development, family self-sufficiency, and the accomplishment of family goals.
• Serves as a member of the student support and attendance teams to identify students at risk of chronic absence and disciplinary action, coordinating with the school, families, and community to provide necessary support.
• Continuously assesses student needs through interviews, surveys and data to identify additional community resources for the center (Work with the school community (administrators, teachers, partner agencies, parents, and students) to identify barriers to learning, available resources, and gaps, and to develop programming that is community responsive).
• Facilitates the integration and coordination of site-based services, including programs and services in the areas of academic support services, behavioral support services, and counseling/family support services (Form partnerships with community agencies aligned with school goals, and bring services into the school (i.e. health, mental health, dental, afterschool, GED, arts etc.) for students and parents).

Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects and programs; overseeing program financial activities; developing effective working relationships; preparing and maintaining accurate records; using assessment results to guide instruction; and administering personnel policies and procedures.
• Knowledge-based Competencies
Required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel and budgeting processes; intervention programming, diversity best practices, and standard business practices.
• Ability-based Competencies
Required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working with multiple projects, frequent interruptions and changing work priorities; working with detailed information/data; maintaining confidentiality; and facilitating communication between persons with frequently divergent positions.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
College degree preferred
Experience working in youth development, youth academic enrichment and family support programs strongly preferred
Experience working in Title I schools or districts preferred
Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
