Job Summary
Working as a collaborative member of our team, you will use data science and machine learning techniques to help drive deep data analysis and uncover insights that will enable the business to make strong and strategic decisions. You will work with data engineers, data analysts, business experts, and external vendors to initiate our machine learning journey at Core & Main. Working cross-functionally to answer complex questions with data increasing efficiencies and improving customer experience. This role requires effective communication skills, relationship building and a focus on the overall business.

Based on our evolution this role will be provided the opportunity to grow as an expert in more than one data science specializations, such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
• Extract data from various databases; performs exploratory data analysis, cleanses, massages, and aggregates data
• Employ scaling & automation to data preparation techniques
• Determine analytics approach to solve business problems; incorporate advanced analytical methodologies including machine learning algorithms where appropriate
• Formulate some business problems into ML problems, owning the complete end-to-end ML/AI workflow and training ML models
• Help identify value-driven opportunities to implement and embed ML/AI models in analytics workloads, data services and enterprise applications
• Design and develop algorithms and models to use against large datasets to create business insights
• Transform model outputs into formats that are digestible to the end users through visualization, clear tables, and/or thoughtful presentations. Assist technical and non-technical end users in how to leverage and interpret the analysis.
• Ensure that developed codes are documented into a library of reusable algorithms.
Preferred Qualifications
• Self-starter, attention to details and results orientated, able to work under minimal guidance.
• Proficient in communicating effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Proficient utilizing statistical techniques to identify key insights that help solve business problems
• Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
• Advanced competency and expertise in Python, R or other similar platforms
• Strong SQL, database and ETL skills including cleaning and managing data.
• Minimum of 3+ years in data science.
• Ability to educate others on statistical / machine learning methods
• Strong background working with predictive and statistical modeling, machine learning and strong expertise in all phases of the modeling pipeline
• Experience building complex data sets from multiple data sources, both internally and externally.
• Education: BS+ with concentration in quantitative discipline - Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Econ, Quantitative Social Science, or similar discipline.
