Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The Technical Production Manager ( TPM ) is a 10-month position for the Department of Dance and the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. As a shared position, the position will support Dance 60% of the time and Theatre and Film Studies 40% of the time. The TPM will be responsible for lighting and theatre electrics, audio, projection, media, and digital technology as well as construction of sets. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and safe use of all equipment, and for assisting with the acquisition of necessary materials, and maintenance of inventory. Strong organizational skills in technical production, facilities and equipment management and maintenance, and training of student crews are needed.
In the Department of Dance, the position supports the production of annual dance concerts, presentations, faculty support, and other dance events on and off campus. The TPM oversees the department's theatre, studios, upkeep of marley flooring and technical equipment along with other supporting efforts that contribute to the overall functioning of the department. The TPM is responsible for steering the production process and technical needs for rehearsals and dance performances. Most importantly, the TPM will be effective in managing productions, which contribute to student production assignments and faculty research.
In the Department of Theatre, this position assists the Senior Technical Director in maintaining the scene, props, and electrics shops, production support areas, and stage spaces, and supervising, training, and evaluating graduate and undergraduate shop staff. The TPM will help to coordinate, direct, and contribute to the construction and installation of scenery, props, and lighting (hang, focus, and maintenance), and assist with audio, projection, and media for all UGA Theatre mainstage productions and other departmental events.
This position will typically work three full days in the Department of Dance and two in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies each week. However, during concerts and productions, the weekly hours can be irregular. If there are simultaneous performances in both departments, Dance will have priority. Extended hours are needed approximately two-three weeks prior to the opening of each event. Performances in both Theatre and Dance are held in the evenings and on weekends. Work schedule may be adjusted to balance overtime hours during heavy production periods in the fall and spring.
