Job Description
SUMMARY
As an Automation Engineer at Carlisle Interconnect Technologies in Pottstown, PA you will spend approximately 60% of your time designing automated systems and implementing control systems. The remainder of your time will be split overseeing projects (20%) and providing systems support (20%). To be chosen for this role, you must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering as well as three years of automation experience. To be successful in this role, you must provide solutions that reduce product costs, improve uptime and efficiency, address Safety and Quality related impacts and focus on meeting customer needs (both internal and external). You will have the opportunity to expand your scope of competency while streamlining manufacturing activities for products that are used in Military, Defense, Aerospace, and other markets.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Plan/Design/Procure capital equipment for purchase or internal development related to automating manufacturing and supporting processes. Develop justifications and complete ACE (Approval for Capital Expense) for purchase.
• Interface with various PLC/HMI controllers
• Develop Software and Controls Systems using Various Programming Languages, Labview, Visual Basic, Machine Code, Etc.
• Design Tooling and Equipment using Solidworks CAD Software.
• Program and debug manufacturing equipment on shop floor
• Integrate automation upgrades into process equipment
• Source new vendors to reduce project delays
• Create and implement DQ/IQ/OQ and PQ protocols as required for qualification of new machinery and/or systems.
• Proven ability to budget projects and provide ROI on upgraded designed/procured equipment
• Manage projects from infancy to full manufacturing execution
• Build appropriate preventive maintenance systems by coordinating with Maintenance Dept.
• Provide technical support for existing automated systems on shop floor
• Participates in Continuous Improvement Projects to improve manufacturing capabilities and/or reduce costs through improved manufacturing techniques, tooling and/or automation.
• Works with other Engineering groups (Process, Design, Project) and other functions to ensure systems and programs are meeting intended specifications.
• Troubleshoot issues as related to Tooling, software, and automation systems.
• Lead, coordinate and/or participate in design reviews – Complete DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ process as required for qualification of new machinery and/or systems.
• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Once trained, able to complete day to day tasks with little supervision, but requires guidance and oversight on more complex projects.   Previous engineering co-op experience in an applicable field.  Able to participate in and advise cross functional project teams.
II
Automation Engineer II
2-7 years
All requirement for Level I above.  Strong understanding of Tooling, Automation, Software and/or Controls Design and implementation.  Able to lead cross functional project teams.
III
Sr. Automation Engineer
7-10 years
All Requirements per Level II.  Repeatedly demonstrates success to effectively organizing, planning, and executing process engineering projects from start to finish.  Project Leader for most Complex Process Engineering Projects.  Subject Matter Expert in automation engineering related activities for an area.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
