ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
Child & Family Studies (CFS) is one of seven departments and schools within the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences (CBCS) at the University of South Florida (USF). Organized into three research divisions and four academic programs that work synergistically, CFS currently has approximately 275 faculty and staff members. During FY21, CFS is managing a portfolio of over 50 federal and non-federal contracts and grants totaling $55.7 million. Our research divisions include the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities (FCIC), Child and Family Behavioral Health (CFBH), and the Rightpath Research and Innovation Center. CFS's four academic programs are Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health (CABH), Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (RMHC), and Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). Six graduate certificates and one undergraduate certificate are also offered. CFS efforts are consistent with the CBCS mission of combining knowledge gained through the behavioral sciences with knowledge gained from the community. CFS faculty, staff and students, who are well immersed in the local community as well as state and national efforts, are deeply connected to the college's focus of Creating Healthy Communities.  All activities within CFS are also aligned with USF strategic goals: having well-educated and highly skilled global citizens through a continuing commitment to student success; participating in high-impact research and innovation to change lives, improve health, and foster sustainable development and positive societal change; creating new partnerships to build a strong and sustainable future for Florida in the global economy; and establishing a strong and sustainable economic base in support of USF's continued academic advancement.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Services Practitioner position manages (plans, conducts, coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and exercises direct supervision over) a variety of technical assistance, training, and service activities for agencies and families within the CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) 14 county region. CARD is a free community-based program funded by the Florida Department of Education through an annual grant. Services are delivered wherever families, professionals, schools, agencies or businesses are located within our 14-county region in southwest Florida. As such, our human services practitioners spend most of their time in the community working directly with families, schools, agencies and businesses. This position will work with individuals throughout the lifespan; however, we are looking for someone with experience and interest in working with young adults and adults.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct consultation to individuals with autism and related disabilities and their families, professionals and support personnel. Schedules appointments, assesses needs, provides resources and materials as well as evidence-based strategies to improve outcomes.
Provides onsite training as well as developing training content for online trainings and tutorials; presents at conferences that are open to the public; demonstrates successful educational practices for teachers to model; designs, develops, coordinates, and conducts training and technical assistance to schools and community service agencies
Provides autism awareness activities and materials to the public; develops content for new education and awareness materials
Informs the program director of community and family unmet needs and develop viable solutions to address these concerns. Monitors, documents and evaluates the results of these activities.
Responds to families' and professionals' requests for written information and readings related to autism and related topics; gathers information for and assists with preparation of quarterly report data. Documents activity/training evaluation through survey monkey; data collection and entry into the FileMaker Pro database
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM: Each position assigned to this classification must require specific training at the Bachelor's degree or Master's degree level in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or other field appropriate to the program content. Bachelor's degree candidates must have at least two years of applicable experience. The Master's degree may substitute for the required experience. Specific certifications or licensures may be required or preferred for certain program areas.
PREFERRED: Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or other field appropriate to the program content, with at least one year of applicable experience; Bilingual. Experience working with individuals with autism, their families, educators. Experience providing trainings.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING: Experience working with individuals, families, professionals, educators. Autism or disability experience.
