SENIOR PRODUCT ENGINEER, GLOBAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
POSITION PURPOSE
Manages the evaluation & development of new & existing materials & products for CHEP's global business. Creates and executes development plans and applies technical knowledge and analytical skills to deliver best-in-class product solutions that satisfy the customer needs in terms of performance, cost and time to market. Manages projects and cross-functional team members to ensure the successful completion of project initiatives.
MAJOR / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Hands-on engineering support for material development efforts- including creating standard test protocols, defect & failure mode analysis
* Manage complex product/material development projects. Working collaboratively with global team members from multiple countries.
* Responsible for concept generation, design, development and evaluation of new products, materials and technologies
* Leverage, build and integrate existing technology and technologies developed at CHEP's Global Innovation Centre to enhance CHEP's products, while diversifying and differentiating the product portfolio
* Responsible for collaborating with Global PD team to deploy CHEP's Innovation Centre resources efficiently and effectively
* Substantiate new materials and products through validation and physical testing
* Interface and communicate with management via effective presentations/reports and communications
* Manages project time plans with regular updates and effective communication
* Uses both an analytical and creative approach to product assessment and technical challenges
* Creates product test plans in line with project goals, strategy and customer requirements
* Collaboration and management of external technology & engineering service providers when required

QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Material Science/Engineering (or similar discipline) required
* Strong project management and organization skills - certification a plus
* In-depth knowledge of material characterization and physical testing
* Experienced in product design utilizing engineering tools (SolidWorks, CAD, FEA) a plus
* Minimum 5 years' experience in product development with a strong bias in materials and mechanical/structural engineering
* Working knowledge of test methodology and standards ISO, ASTM, ISTA
* Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
* Advanced PowerPoint and excel highly desirable
* Exposure and working knowledge in using statistics software for data analysis (e.g. Minitab, SAS, Statistical)
EXPERIENCE
* 5+ years mechanical engineering design and/or project management experience in a high-performance product development culture
* Experience in supply chain & materials handling environments is a plus
* Broad product design experience with a wide array of materials including suitability evaluation for applications based on mechanical properties
* Demonstrated successful commercial execution of products and technologies
* Tooling and manufacturing experience, particularly for plastics and/or composites parts and assemblies a plus
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
* Expert knowledge in, materials, design engineering, and manufacturing processes
* Expert problem-solving skills including root cause analysis
* Knowledge of predictive engineering techniques, CAE tools, FMEA, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
* Familiarity and exposure in structural analysis (FEA) in an engineering design environment
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills
* Experience and aptitude in large company safety programs & initiatives with previous responsibilities in safety co-ordination and implementation a plus
LANGUAGES
English
Desirable: Major European Languages - especially Spanish or German
