Description of Work This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 1st, 2023. This position will serve Piedmont Correctional Institution.

Position is located at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), which houses approximately 800 male offenders. This position provides clerical support to the medical department. They will be required to protect and maintain health records to a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.  These responsibilities include effectively maintain medical files for offenders; compose and type letters/memos; proofread documents for spelling/punctuation/grammar; input and comprehend computer-generated medical data; update records in electronic medical records system.  This position is also responsible for ordering and keeping inventory of medical supplies and scheduling medical appointments for inmates.  In addition, they will be required to work well independently and with others; receive and distribute mail; answer telephone and direct calls to appropriate staff; operate office equipment such as personal computer, telephone, calculator, copier, scanner, fax machine, etc. The position requires the ability to exercise good judgment and communication with medical staff, inmates, DPS staff and the general public.  Cross training in other areas is required and as deemed necessary.

State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.   If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.   Based upon these factors, a pay increase/decrease MAY result. • Demonstrated experience performing administrative functions in an office setting.
• Demonstrated experience with e-mail, MSWord, MS Excel computer software.
• Demonstrated experience in organization, retention, review and filing of records
Management Preferences:
Preference will be given to applicants with experience using the HERO and OPUS databases.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
