Job Description At Harness, we build tools and infrastructure to connect Payments to Purpose. We work with thousands of companies to make it easy for millions of people to program their payment cards to “do more with every payment.” Our products are used by everyone from local non-profits to global financial institutions and are supported by the world’s largest card networks, including Visa and Mastercard. Founded in 2016, Harness is headquartered in Tampa, Florida with offices in New York, and currently expanding with remote employees around the world. The Role The VP of Engineering at Harness will join the senior management team and report directly to the CEO. The executive in this role will lead our company’s technical direction and execution, optimize our platform’s integration with enterprise solutions, and form effective working relationships across Harness’ business units.
The VP of Engineering will: ● Build upon a tech stack that is currently: o Jamstack frontends built with Vue.js and Cloudflare Workers. o Serverless middleware hosted in Cloudflare Workers. o Backend API built with PHP, MySQL, Redis. Collection of cloud services hosted by AWS and GCP. ● Initially manage a technical team of 12 engineers; scale this team to 50+ over the next few years ● Deliver and support multiple applications and services at speed and scale ● Drive innovation in both technology and process, evangelize the use of modern software development practices with an emphasis on automation and reliability engineering ● Collaborate with various levels of stakeholders (senior leadership, each department’s management, project teams) on product strategy and technical execution and be counted upon to make effective, balanced technical decisions that deliver the key enabling features to support the growth of our business How You’ll Drive the Development for Harness: ● Hire great technical talent; mentor, coach and develop individuals to optimize performance over time ● Architect and build scalable software solutions ● Manage geographically distributed engineering scrum-teams using agile development and DevOps best practices ● Manage production issue triage, processes, and prevention as needed ● Establish technical definitions and implementation for analytics, error logging/tracking, and other key functional customer interactions ● Lead technical dialogues with Harness business partners; work with external technical teams to ensure technical strategies, architecture guidelines and standards are realized through efficient collaboration with architecture, development, and DevOps teams ● Bring innovative ideas to the table every day, to find better ways of accomplishing our customer objectives ● Set clear, measurable quality goals for our organization in a data-driven way ● Foster a culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics
Why We’ll Love You: ● Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university; concentration in computer science preferred ● 8+ years of direct experience ● Broad and deep technical understanding of the technologies in this field, including but not limited to technologies like Vue, PHP, and MySQL ● Strong data management principles around data architecture, modeling/design, data quality, security, data organization and operations ● Track record of effectively sharing technical information and communicating technical issues and solutions to all levels of a business ● History of juggling multiple projects - identifying primary and secondary objectives, prioritizing time and communicating timelines to team members ● Product/project ownership mentality ● Flexibility to work based on department and company needs
