We have a current opening for a Vice President of Safety and Security. In this role you will lead a talented team of safety professionals striving to achieve world class safety performance through a combination of strong leadership and robust policies, procedures and processes developed within the framework of a comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS). You will work closely with administrative and operational leadership to establish a culture where safety is an integral part of the work we do and everyone's responsibility. In this role you will also work with a team of security professionals ensuring our assets are assessed and secured against physical attacks. The Vice President of Safety and Security will provide both strategic and tactical direction to the business on safety and security matters and will also collaborate with HR on corporate health and wellness initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Sets the vision for World Class Safety and is passionate in the belief that all injuries are preventable.
* Works with Emera Safety and Tampa Electric leaders to establish annual goals and objectives and processes that enhance safety culture, ensure compliance to applicable standards, advance the SMS, and promote safety leadership and employee belief/engagement.
* Drives the development of corporate-level safety programs, processes, and procedures within the established framework of a comprehensive Safety Management System.
* Accountable for all safety operations.
* Ensures the company's SMS meets all applicable legal, regulatory, and industry standards and provide direction and guidance to executives, senior management, and other leaders on safety programs, work practices and standards development.
* Serves as executive sponsor for development and delivery of safety related training.
* Ensures systems and metrics are in place to report on the status of all elements within the SMS and are being enforced consistently.
* Partners with operational leaders both internally and externally to ensure that the safety program is meeting the needs of the business and is current with industry trends.
* Ensures the team promptly and effectively evaluates and investigates critical safety incidents including high potential near misses, with a goal to understand root cause and establishing corrective actions to prevent a recurrence.
* Interfaces with OSHA as required.
* Serves as the Safety Compliance Manager under the Safety Compliance Plan adopted by the company pursuant to the Plea Agreement with the United States Department of Justice.
* Ensures the prudent appropriation of capital and O&M for a sustainable and effective security monitoring system, evolving expansion and upgrades, and maintenance of physical and electronic security devices.
* Ensures all NERC locations maintain the appropriate physical and electronic security measures.
* Ensures the Emergency Management team receives the appropriate training, interfaces with SEE and partners with all operating areas to update, practice, and deploy emergency management plans and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, Occupational Health and Safety or a degree in another related discipline supplemented by relevant experience/ training in Safety and Health Management OR equivalent combination of training and operational experience. Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution.
* A minimum of 10 years' leadership experience in operations.
* Significant experience working within an effective Safety Management System that includes a unionized workforce and a tightly regulated environment.
* Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with the ability to develop and oversee implementation of highly effective improvement plans.
* Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
