Full Job Description Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay is a fast-paced and well-established orthopaedic practice with 7 locations. The position is currently located at our brand new facility located at 13837 Circa Crossing Drive, Lithia FL 33547!
The Medical Collections Specialist position is responsible for a variety of tasks including; answering inbound calls, answering patient questions, verifying account information, processing credit card payments; contacting patients and responsible parties to resolve past-due accounts and researching account statuses, reviewing accounts to be sent to collections, reviewing patient statements prior to them being uploaded and sent out and maintaining the workflow of working patient accounts. In addition, the Medical Collections Specialist must be able and comfortable to perform the below tasks at ease and with minimal supervision:
• Reviews outstanding insurance claims and contacts carrier for resolution prior to patient billing.
• Contact patients for updated insurance information when necessary.
• Updates and re-bills as appropriate.
• Reviews all rejected claims and appeals when appropriate. ·
• Initiates refund requests when necessary.
• Work new and old AR; work closely with payers, file and follow-up on appeals; work insurance denials and zero pays.
• Work correspondence and credit balances.
• Read an EOB and patient account ledger.
• Generate weekly statements to be uploaded & upload reports to collection agency as applicable.
• Follow-up with patients to collect monies owed.
• Assist patients on the phone and in-person regarding the patient account.
• Research patient accounts and answer patient questions including educating patient regarding their bill.
• Set up payment plans with patients according to predefined guidelines.
• Manage the work files and make outbound calls to patients or the responsible parties.
• Monitor accounts to ensure statements have gone out and that payments are being made.
• Document and update insurance information when necessary.
• Adheres to company policy in maintaining an acceptable attendance/tardy record.

• Maintains confidentiality of all patient and financial information.
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
The Medical Collections Specialist must OWN the whole process of collections. Must be able to work and complete tasks on schedule with minimal supervision.
Experience:
• 3-5years customer service experience preferred
• 3-5years collections experience preferred
• 3-5years medical office experience preferred
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• General health care knowledge.
• Able to read and understand an EOB
• Understanding/compliance of HIPAA laws and regulations.
• Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in person and over the phone
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be well organized, detail-oriented and demonstrate accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
• Able to work in a team environment.
• Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment, including telephones, computers, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, scanners, and shredders.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
• Type a minimum of 35 wpm
Physical Requirements:
• Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
• Manual dexterity is needed for using a ten-key calculator and/or computer keyboard.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Working Conditions:
• Normal office environment.
• The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.
• Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.
