Job Description
Overview:The Specimen Processor will work with cytology, histology and/or molecular microbiology. Experience in those specialties is desirable. Processors will perform various support activities for laboratory technical staff including specimen receipt and triage, specimen processing, ordering and stocking of materials, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining laboratory workspace. The hours are 2:30 am - 11:00 am Tuesday - Saturday.Responsibilities:Receive and process specimens consistent with specimen requirements for testing including positive patient identification, appropriate specimen collection container and specimen transport requirements.Identify and accurately label specimens and distribute them to the appropriate testing areaPerform clerical and administrative duties as neededOrganize and maintain lab specimen storageOrganize and monitor lab supplies for appropriate inventory levels as directed by laboratory leadershipCommunicate specimen non-conformities to technical staff and/or laboratory leadershipClean and maintain work area and all lab equipment and suppliesFollow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimensComply with chemical hygiene and/or laboratory safety proceduresComply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologiesAssists all technical laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed.Qualifications:High school degree or equivalent; strong data entry skills.Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred2 years’ experience as a lab assistant, specimen processor, or relevant experience in a lab is preferred
