ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The primary mission of the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Research and Scholarship (CAS-ORS) is to promote and enhance all aspects of research and scholarly activities within the college by; Strengthening CAS research infrastructure and expanding its extramural funding portfolio, Cultivating focused research areas that respond to global challenges, Accelerating the translation of research discovery into real-world applications,Increasing publications and other scholarly activity by faculty at all ranks and Facilitating collaborative research projects centered on focused research areas.
CAS-ORS provides support for the development of research proposals and fellowships by assisting researchers in identify funding sources that align with their research areas, designing and facilitating proposal development workshops, demonstrating applicable strategic tools and resources, performing comprehensive proposal narrative reviews, offering internal awards, and providing solid research infrastructure. In addition to the pre-award proposal and post-award grant support, CAS-ORS promotes the research and scholarship success of our faculty, correspondingly increasing our visibility within the university, our local community stakeholders, and our national and international peers.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Unit Research Administrator serves as a consultant, reviewer and trainer to Unit Research Administrators (URA's) in the College of Arts and Sciences. This position acts as a liaison between  Principal
Investigators, Sponsored Research, and Research Financial Management for the development, review and
subsequent administration of grants and contracts. The CAS Sr. URA is included on the distribution list for
Research and Innovation for all CAS proposals, RANs and modifications of awards. This position assists in the
development and implementation of policies and procedures for the operation of the CAS Research Administration, assists in developing and delivering training materials to promote best practices amongst CAS Unit Research Administrators.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research Administration:
Coordinates proposal submission and approval, including checking USF internal forms for compliance concerns, meeting with faculty regarding budget questions, working with department chairs on resource commitments. Assists with budget preparation and the setup of externally funded awards. Serves as liaison between PI and Sponsored Research.  Provide backup and/or coverage of proposal submissions and management of awards for departments, when needed. Serve as primary point of contact on honorific awards across all CAS departments.
Compliance Management:
Troubleshoot complex situations with external research funding, performs investigative review to assist with problem solving and facilitation of solutions, aligning with CAS Associate Dean of Research. Oversees effort reporting compliance (primary point of contact): Ensures college-wide completion and submission of all effort and activity reports (PERT) to Research and Financial Management for federal grants. Serves as the CAS representative on the USFRI DSR- College Collaboration Standing Workgroup.
Training and Onboarding:
Assist in updating and maintaining training program for CAS URAs, including onboarding. Facilitates meetings/workshops for CAS URAs. Communicates federal, state and institutional guidelines with CAS URAs. Provides guidance and overview on college wide funding sources, with focus on internal and external research funds. Provide ongoing mentorship to CAS URA's. Create tools for best practices to enhance procedural consistency across departmental URAs. Requires advanced knowledge of pre and post-award policies and procedures.
Supervision and Oversight:
Supervise and assist in the research administration efforts for college level URA's handling the research administration for multiple academic units within the college without an assigned departmental URA. May act as a second reviewer for other Unit Research Administrators in CAS. Works directly with more complex cases such as multiple sub-contracts, major industrial contracts, or grants with export control issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and four years of research or research administration experience; A Master's degree may substitute for two years of the required experience. There is no substitution of experience for the Bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
At least 5 years experience with higher education research administration, familiarity with broad funding agencies, grant management. USF CRA/Advanced TRAIN certification.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
This position must have at least four years of research administration experience, preferably as a Unit Research Administrator at USF.
