ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Office of Research of the Morsani College of Medicine is directed by the Vice Dean for Research. It serves to manage, develop, facilitate, fund, promote and recruit research in basic, translational, and clinical research.  There are ~30 employees and potentially 10 new full time employees from our integration of the TGH OCR.  The unit manages ~$93 million in research expenditures. The unit manages the development of the new USF Health Heart Institute, which will ultimately have ~150 employees. The unit will take on additional responsibilities related to research within USF Health. The research team of the Vice Dean for Research is also administered by this office.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position will provide research administration support to the Vice Dean for Research in the College of Medicine. The individual is the primary contact between the Vice Dean (also Principal Investigator) and the sponsored research staff members in the College of Medicine Office of Research, Sponsored Research and other research related units across campus as needed. The individual will carry out grant proposal preparation, budget management, and research performance progress reports on all active grants. He/she will work closely with the Vice Dean on manuscript editing, preparation and submission. The individual will also administer the Vice Dean's laboratory, called the Center for Personalized Medicine and Genomics, that houses between 6-10 people on average. The individual will have a working knowledge of scientific terminology and be capable of learning complex formats for grants and publication submissions. The individual will provide daily administrative support to the Vice Dean and work collaboratively with the entire team within the Office of Research.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grants and manuscripts: assembly, production, submission of grants by working collaboratively with the Vice Dean, the Center's scientific team, and our sponsored research office. Manage the mandatory grant progress reports required by funding agencies and work closely with the post-award staff on grant expenditures. Provide assistance on manuscript editing, submission, and resubmission for up to 20 articles per year.  The Vice Dean also serves on the Editorial Boards for other journals, where he performs similar functions and requires assistance in scientific writing and editing. Ensure compliance standards are met.
Administration: daily duties in the Office of the Vice Dean for Research; special projects such as faculty recruitments, produce reports and presentations; events planning and others.
Center (laboratory): provide HR support to all lab personnel (faculty, technicians, students, volunteers, etc.); manage lab supplies; manage staff certifications and onboarding processes for Bio-safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Vivarium, etc.)
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and one year of professional administrative experience; or a Master's degree.  Progressively responsible related experience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
PREFERRED:
Have working knowledge of scientific terminology, correspondence, applications and submissions. Experience in higher education or industry setting. Exceptionally detailed-oriented. Capable to use judgment where necessary. Must be a team player. Willing to learn and contribute to the team. Will consider degrees in writing and associated majors.
