Location: Within Tampa Bay counties of Polk, Hillborough, and Pinellas
The Organizer plays a key role in executing CFJwJ's approach to leadership development; supporting worker organizing and advocacy; coalition building; and direct action campaigns that integrate strategic research and communications.
The Community Organizer will work collaboratively with JwJ staff, partners, organizers, and worker leaders to mobilize and support worker organizing. The Community Organizer reports to and is supervised by one of the Co-Directors and the Membership/ Lead
Organizer.

Central Florida Jobs With Justice is a coalition of labor unions, community, faith-based, worker centers, and student organizations. We fight inequality by driving strategies that expand the theater in which workers are able to bargain for improved standards. The organization provides strategic support to nearly 30 member groups through training, worker advocacy, issue-based campaign planning, and mobilizing activists to increase the impact of local organizing. By bringing together labor, community, student, and faith voices at a statewide and local level, we are creating innovative solutions to the problems workers face today. We win real change for workers by combining innovative organizing strategies, leadership development, and policy advocacy with grassroots action and mobilization.
Primary Role and Job Responsibilities
Membership Recruitment and Engagement
● Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with current member leaders and steering committee reps through mostly one-to-one conversations, and steering committee meetings. Maintain day-to-day contact with membership leaders; work independently to integrate strategies.
● Identification and recruiting new organizations and individuals as members of the organization. Strategies include having affiliation meetings and membership asks at events, in-person one on one or by phone.
● Recruitment and Retention of existing members into the leadership ladder through building durable and strong relationships with members, activists, and leaders; planning and organizing membership activities;
Coalition and Partner Engagement
● Participate or lead work with partner organizations and coalitions toward shared goals.
● Builds intentional relationships with partners and explores how CF-JwJ capacities meet organizational needs and construct strategies for advancing the organization.
● Communicate with the rest of the organization teams to provide capacity to
JWJ’s role in meeting deliverables with partner organizations.
● Share responsibilities on engaging grassroots leaders in CF-JwJ collective campaign work, including strategic goal setting, preparing leaders for visits to advocate with elected officials, gathering signatures, and turning out their friends and family for actions, press conferences, voter work, etc.
JwJ Campaign and Program Execution
● Plan and execute membership solidarity requests and project needs including mobilizations, training, convening meetings, and playing a role with leaders.
● Working closely with the senior leadership to execute organizing goals and ID and recruits targeted members to provide ongoing support for external advocacy to reach its strategic campaign goals and vision.
● Coordinates member outreach to retain and activate new members; consistently involving workers and supporters in the organization and increasing their commitment; activating members to lead work on various campaign committees.
Leadership Development and Training
● Conduct and facilitate training/workshops with and for membership groups and partners on effective community organizing: research meetings, team building, mobilization, power analysis, voter engagement, coalitions, structural racism, storytelling, one-to-ones, etc. Develop others’ ability to teach these skills.
● Identify and cultivate grassroots leaders to increase skills and effectiveness in
building the organization, taking on leadership roles and taking action; implement leadership ladder to provide opportunities for growth and development; support the political education/skills of leaders through 1 on 1s.
Additional Organizational Responsibilities:
● Actively participate in organizational strategy, planning, tracking and reporting, and staff meetings.
● Work with CF-JwJ staff to provide timely reporting on program activities and leverage strategic relationships for the organization when needed.
● Actively participate in CF-JWJ wide events and efforts such as Fundraising events, JwJ annual training.
● Performs other related duties as assigned by Co-Directors.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications
At least 1 year of grassroots organizing and/or Labor and worker organizing experience.
Prior work experience working in high-risk/ pressure situations.
Prior experience in outreach and engagement of working people, including mobilizing people to action and building up their leadership.
Ability to handle multiple “priority” projects and meet established timelines.
Ability to work effectively with organizations and members in complex, political situations.
Ability to work well with a team and motivate others to take action.
Self-starter who can work independently toward goals in a multi-step project. Ability to manage time efficiently and with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Having reliable transportation and driving for regional work-related travel is a must.
Willingness and ability to work irregular hours including occasional weekend and evening work.
Strong commitment to racial justice, workers’ rights, and working-class community empowerment.
Additional desirable qualities but not required
Knowledge of issues affecting unemployed and underemployed workers, poor and working class communities in the south.
Fluency in a second language
Familiarity with the intersections of a just transition/climate justice and working people
Experience with Action Network and Digital Texting programs.
Knowledge and/or experience taking action with Jobs with Justice!
Required Skills
Ability to understand and articulate the CF-JwJ vision, mission, and theory of social change and organize others to align self-interest with the interest of
Florida workers.
Quick learner with a willingness to work hard and develop as an organizer, especially through 1:1s.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer skills: (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)
Ability to cultivate and nurture internal and external public relationships that are accountable, reciprocal, and transparent

Excellent writing, proofreading, and verbal communications skills
Demonstrated ability to fundraise.

Salary/Benefits/Additional Information
The salary range for this position falls within our salary employee level pay scale. The salary range is between $45k to $51k per year depending on experience. Includes a generous benefits package that includes full employer-funded medical, vision, dental insurance and Life/A+D insurance. Paid Vacation, Personal, Holiday, and Sick days.
Travel mileage allowance/reimbursement, phone stipend, and other expense reimbursements as required to support the work of advancing the organization's growth.
