Role and Responsibilities                                                                                                         SummaryThe Software Engineering is the managing supervisor of a Software Engineering functional group, responsible for the technical, financial, and schedule performance of their team(s).  They provide technical and programmatic leadership in the design, development, and integration of software solutions to meet complex customer needs while maintaining a business focus.  This requires a mix of technical strength, strategic vision, business acumen, interpersonal skills, and the ability to create a team environment.  These elements are applied to lead the Engineering team within a culture of engagement and high performance to achieve the successful execution of software development programs and contribute to the financial success of the business.The technology teams reporting to this position consist of:Controls:  Develops software and hardware solutions for rotary and fixed wing control systems achieved through the use of electric servo control motors.  This group is also responsible for modelling aircraft stability enhancement systems, autopilot controllers and flight director systems. Motion:  Develops software and hardware solutions for the simulator’s motion control system which translates aircraft movement into equivalent simulator movement inside its space constraints.  This group is also responsible for generating vibration effects specific to the simulated aircraft.Primary ResponsibilitiesStrategic and tactical oversight of a team of Engineers and SME’s, providing technical leadership and active budget management for all assigned taskingEnsures work execution to achieve maximum schedule and financial performance while meeting technical requirements of internal or external customersCreates and maintains work plans for team members based on priorities established by the Engineering department through our SAFe / Agile processesManages team priorities and tasking while serving as the single interface to program teams to limit plan disruptions and minimize task-switching by team membersMonitors Agile process metrics and collaboratively works with team(s) to adjust execution and achieve continuous improvementOwner and design authority of all products and technology (CAE developed) that are managed by the group, including maintaining product roadmaps to define future needsStrategic technical direction for responsible technology areas, including monitoring of industry trends and technology, conference attendance, and identification of emerging technologyResponsible for the team’s adherence to Engineering processes in the execution of their work and for maintaining the requisite level of Software QualityPerforms all resource planning including matching skills with tasks, man-loading forecasts, staffing decisions, and coordinating with other groups for resource sharingOverall responsibility for team training, career planning, and mentoring of junior engineers (with support from senior team members)Delivers performance feedback and development guidance through regular one on one counseling for all team members, and execution of annual review processesProvides status and metric reporting to Engineering Management as neededParticipates in bid and proposal activities as needed including solutioning, costing, technical writing, and cost or proposal reviewsSupport CAE USA Strategic Business Objectives and department flow-down goalsParticipates in Process Improvement Initiatives including identification of improvement opportunitiesQualifications and Education RequirementsBachelors’ degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematicsMinimum of 8 years Software Engineering and/or Engineering Management experience with at least 5 years of experience in a simulation training field or related industryTechnical understanding of control system theory, digital filters, aerodynamics and aircraft operations, geometry, optimal control theory, digital filters, Fourier transforms, aircraft physics as well as a general knowledge of electric and hydraulic industrial servo controls.Effective leadership, motivational, and mentoring skillsAbility to effectively manage budgets and achieve financial and schedule performanceStrong technical acumen and ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problemsFamiliar with software development and integration, software lifecycle and configuration management conceptsRobust planning and organizational skills applied to direct multiple teams with shifting priorities supporting different deliverablesProficient communication skills, including verbal, presentation, and written, as well as technical writing skillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulationsExisting security clearance is a plusSecurity ResponsibilitiesIncumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.  Must comply with all company and government security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form.Work EnvironmentWork is
