Position Overview
We at the Climate Corporation are looking for an intellectually curious, creative, and experienced software engineer who would be excited to join a team that is actively innovating in the digital-agriculture space. The Climate Corporation's mission is to improve the efficiency of growers who are literally feeding the world while adapting to climate change, regional conflicts, and other challenges. The Climate Corporation's role in this space is to collect and organize relevant data and to apply agronomic models to predict future outcomes and to make agronomic recommendations regarding, for example, what seed products to plant and in what densities.
Our engineer's design and deliver applications to growers based on algorithms and models developed in-house by crop scientists and other subject-matter experts. As an experienced engineer, you will be expected to participate in and expand our culture by soliciting a diversity of viewpoints, building consensus on designs, and delivering high-quality software that meets our customer's needs. You should be able to demonstrate experience with test-driven development, CI/CD, SLDC improvement, and Agile practices. You should exhibit mastery of at least one programming language and the capacity to learn new languages and frameworks as needs arise. You should demonstrate a deep understanding of data modeling and tradeoffs arising from different data-storage and management technologies. You should understand how to build systems that can be monitored for quality and performance. You should care about important details but be able to prioritize tasks to deliver systems on time. You should enjoy the feeling we all have here when we deliver a high-quality system that delivers value to our customers.
What You Will Do
• Design and implement complex agriculture science models
• Design and implement highly scalable microservices for data-intensive processing
• Design and implement REST APIs and data processing pipelines for mobile, web and 3rd party integrations
• Actively participate in the design and code review process across the team.
• Mentor your peers and share your knowledge
• Produce high quality code with an emphasis on software craftsmanship.
• Ensure our codebase is continuously deliverable and deployable.
• Build your knowledge and contribute your ideas through interactive product design sessions, hackathons, and on-farm opportunities.
Basic Qualifications
• BS in software related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong mathematical background
• 8 years or more of programming experience in Python, Clojure or another programming language.
• Software engineering work experience using a functional or object-oriented language (Java, Clojure, Scala, etc)
• Experience building scalable backend services (REST APIs, microservices, designing and implementing efficient data processing algorithms, messaging paradigms, middleware, persistent store)
• Experience working with AWS or other public Cloud platforms
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience developing scientific and statistical computing libraries (Strong Plus)
• Experience using Python and its scientific libraries such as numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, pandas (Strong Plus)
• Experience researching and utilizing various scientific libraries (Strong Plus)
• Knowledge of functional programming (Strong Plus)
• Experience using Machine Learning Algorithms and Statistical Analysis (Strong Plus)
• Experience in technical leadership, coaching and mentoring teams and coordinating deliverables across organizations.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, RDS, SQS, etc.)
• Experience building robust backend services and REST APIs
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, engineering diagrams, and listening skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
• Solid knowledge of software development methodologies and best practice
