The Technical Writer will create and revise documents such as standard operating procedures, knowledge-based articles for ServiceNow, training materials, and process documentation. This role drives the creation of a documentation methodology and framework for policy, training, and process materials across Business Services HR functions. This position will work with end users to document processes and procedures as well as translate technical requirements documents into end user support materials. The Technical Writer plans, writes and maintains systems and user support materials, including online help documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop, write, publish, and maintain standard operating procedures, user guides, knowledge-based articles, training materials and process maps to support Business Services functional team members.
• Write documents from a functional business process mindset to ensure user understanding.
• Collaborate with Process leads, IT, end users, and other stakeholders to identify user needs and write/publish documents that bridge the gap between technical expertise and end user understanding.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with content experts and technical support staff to create correct, complete user documentation.
• Organizes and designs layout of materials and documentation methodology to produce accurate materials that are easily interpreted for the end user.
• Develop consistent knowledge-based documentation and processes for end users and keep an up-to-date library of all relevant documents.
• Ensure a mindset of continuous improvement with all end-user knowledge documentation.
• Develop knowledge tools to support the user experience and ensure understanding of complex procedures and then translate it in a way that is easily understood by the end user.
• Creates process flows and maps.
• Writes, edits, and maintains standard operating procedures and other documentation that link back to process flows and maps.
• Determines the best communication method for varied requirements.
• Meets with subject matter experts to learn about specific processes, and reviews associated technical documents to create process flows and standard operating procedures.
• Assesses the audience needs; adjusts tone and communication vehicle to present information for greatest user comprehension.
• Gathers feedback from customers and help desk team members to improve documentation.
• Creates and builds out documentation methodology infrastructure, including customer access requirements, policy maintenance, update process, and archiving methodology and approach.
• Independently gathers information from process owners to create, update, and edit written materials such as knowledge-based articles, standard operating procedures, and process flows.
• Collects user data to determine areas of documentation that need revision and updating.
• Generate innovative ideas for end user training.
• Maintains accuracy and relevancy of Business Services documentation including standard operating procedures, knowledge-based articles, process flows, and policies.
• Develop and maintain templates for written documentation ensuring a consistent look and feel and meets and exceeds the company standards and client expectations.
Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in English, writing, communications, or related field.
• Three years of technical writing experience required.
• Excellent writing and grammatical skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous deadlines.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, WalkMe, ServiceNow, and process mapping software.
