Purpose:
This position exists to ensure that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each grade level.
Essential Functions:
A. á Instructional Process
á
Plans and implements a library media program, which aligns to the mission and vision of the district; providing equal access to all students. Creates and maintains a library media center that is organized, welcoming, and conducive to learning. Delivers library media services by providing resources and instruction for students and teachers to become independent users of information. Plans, prepares, and provides instruction in the skills necessary to access, evaluate, analyze, and organize information in all formats to ensure optimal student achievement. Implements large group, small group, and individual settings. Plans prepares, and provides literature activities to promote a love of reading and lifelong learning for students. á Uses, models, and assists users with instructional applications and use of technology for academic learning.

B. á Curriculum Development
á
Demonstrates an understanding of best practice elements, including a research model, digital literacy, and knowledge of population-appropriate literature. Supports school-wide reading programs. Engages in professional development to enhance knowledge and to stay informed with current library trends. Manages the library media budget. Develops and maintains a balance comprehensive collection of print and digital resources to support classroom curriculum and student reading needs. Works with teachers to identify resources and share information about online subscriptions with teachers, students, and parents. Understands copyright, Fair Use, licensing of intellectual property, and assists users with their understanding, adhering to district policies and procedures. Completes end of year library inventory and submits year-end forms. Assists the textbook manager with inventory, checks in and out equipment and materials to teachers and students.

C. á Classroom Management
á
Establishes and maintains an environment for learning, which includes areas designated and equipped for various functions, such as leisure reading, classroom activities, individual learning, and computer use. Maintains standards for acceptable student behavior using appropriate techniques, which are consistently applied. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Shares responsibility during the day for supervision of students in all areas of the school. Makes arrangements for supervision of assigned duties and or students if there is an absence.

D. á Public Relations
á
Adheres to professional responsibilities in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida. Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations; and is supportive of them to the public. Regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of planning time. Communicates positive aspects of the school program to the public in word and deed. Works cooperatively with parents to enhance the education experience for their children. Works cooperatively with other staff.

E. á Professional Growth
á
Continues professional growth through attendance at in-service training, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. Attends staff, department, and committee meetings as required.

F. á Student Evaluation
á
Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods. Makes adjustments in the instructional program based on assessments. Performs duties necessary to maintain the accountability required for the instructional program as required by the building principal. Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
Non-Essential Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work cooperatively with parents, school districts and agencies in providing services to students . Ability to develop concepts and ideas and relate both in oral and written form. Knowledge of child development. Ability to administer testing instruments as required. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, teams and groups. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the position. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education:
Must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Must be Certified, Qualified and Highly Qualified as defined by the Course Code(s) assigned.
Work Context:
Requires sitting, standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment:
Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. May require working outdoors as well, with exposure to outdoor elements including weather changes, foliage, insects, etc. Requires sitting, standing and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds.
