Position Preface
Information Technology at Sterling consists of three teams; (1) Technical Support, (2) Applications and Development, and (3) Enterprise Data. The Applications and Development team is responsible for supporting Sterling Capitals core application stack which consists of Charles River Investment Management System, APX portfolio accounting system, Salesforce, and several other applications that integrate into these core systems. The team performs system administration across all applications to ensure overall health of the systems, servers and databases as well as supporting the entire user base of 170 employees on the applications. Ingesting of data and feeds into the various systems is critical for our day to day functions, and equally important is the data output which can take the form of customized client reporting, custodian reporting, feeds to upstream/downstream applications, and user reporting just to list a few.
Role
The Business Systems Analyst requires in-depth experience with the business functions and strong understanding of technology integration. Your main focus will be centered on system administration, end user support, and integration of the Advent APX accounting platform and Charles River Investment Management System. There are several upstream and downstream applications that interact with these systems which are also in scope for support under your role. These include, but are not limited to, Archer (3rd party accounting platform), BondEdge (Fixed Income Analytics platform), Advent Revenue Center, Newport (Equity Execution Management Platform), and Bloomberg (security master and fixed income execution management platform).
System Administration:
An essential element of this role is to ensure our Production application and database environment are operating optimally on a daily basis. This can include routine maintenance of directories and log files to ensuring database size is kept to a minimum allowing for a better user experience. You will be responsible for managing the disaster recovery environment as well as lower level instances including UAT and Development. As a system administrator you will be responsible for user privileging and will participate in quarterly access reviews and annual system access audits. You will work closely with end users and vendors on troubleshooting common issues such as system access, reporting, script automation, and connectivity with the Advent suite of products such ACD (Advent Custodial Data), APD (Advent Portfolio Data), REX, and IMEX as well as the downstream systems including Charles River (CRD) and the corresponding execution management systems (Bloomberg, MarketAxess, TradeWeb) and systems used in throughout various integration points (Factset, LongView, Moodys, Fitch, S&P). Along with troubleshooting issues, you will work with end users to focus on system and process enhancements to meet the needs of the ever changing investment management landscape.
System Integration:
You will support other teammates on the Technology team and be responsible for integrating APX with Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS), Advent Revenue Center, security pricing providers (ICE-IDC), Third-Party Accounting and OMS providers (Archer, Sawtooth, Longview), Post-Trade platforms (Oasys/CTM) and our portfolio analytics provider (Factset). You will provide support across multiple lines of business including, Operations, Accounting and Finance, Portfolio Management and Trading, Client Service and Analytics and Information Technology. As the systems analyst, you will act as the point of contact for new initiatives involving APX and CRD to provide your expertise on best practices for integration. You will play a key role in managing system upgrades and will assume project management responsibilities to ensure the success of each migration.
While the core capabilities of this role are focused around system administration and analysis, you will work closely with business users on gathering requirements and communicating your solutions. Some of this communication may take the form of training other technology team members so that they are able to provide redundancy in supporting daily processes while other forms may be direct conversations to users explaining your solutions.
The BSA will communicate and collaborate amongst these teams to gather requirements and recommend effective business solutions. You will work closely with the development team to deliver functional requirement and technical specifications to build out custom reporting, procedures, and integration.
The analytical portion of this role will have you working regularly with data sets on the Charles River (CRD) and APX SQL databases creating customized trade extracts for custodian and client accounts, creating start of day and end of day reports, building customized stored procedures, and integrating data into the applications across our core stack. You will work regularly with the development team within the Microsoft SSRS architecture creating reports that can be automated as well as run ad-hoc by the end user.

Your expertise will be valued as we analyze new platforms such as security master and data warehouse tools and you will employ your experience in system integration and end user reporting to contribute to these multi-year initiatives. For areas outside of your expertise, you will show a willingness and desire to learn new technologies and continue to advance your development skills.
Responsibilities
• Develop relationship with key Vendors and act as a main point of contact for Advent, CRD, and upstream/downstream systems
• Maintain disaster recovery environment, planning, and failover procedures with other system administrators on the IT team
• Maintain lower level UAT and DEV environments
• Build maintenance routine to keep application and database operating at optimal level
• Work with business users and Technology team members to define requirements, perform detailed analysis, develop workflow designs and implement robust maintainable solutions
• Maintain CSSI APX reports when they come due for expiration
• Monitor daily SSIS imports and exports and automated SSRS reporting jobs
• Troubleshoot daily SSIS imports and exports originating from the APX and CRD environments
• Train other members of the Technology team to support custom built processes
• Able to develop project plans and effectively communicate to all stakeholders
• Support the solutions you help define and develop
• Monitor daily emails requests from users and be able to build and prioritize your work queue
Expertise
• Bachelor's degree or higher with emphasis in computer science, engineering, finance and/or accounting
• 4-7 years of experience within technology and/or financial services. Asset Management experience is a major plus.
• Experience working with portfolio accounting systems such as APX, Eagle, Geneva (APX is a plus)
• Experience working with Order Management Systems such as Chares River (CRD/CRIMS), Aladdin, Bloomberg, or Ez-Castle
• Experience writing and tuning SQL queries
• Experience in SSRS or similar reporting solution is a plus
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to develop project plans and effectively communicate to all stakeholders
• Complete understanding of the life-cycle of trading from portfolio management, to trading, to operations, post-trade settlement, and accounting
• Knowledge and experience in Portfolio Management, Wealth Management, Brokerage, Hedge Fund, etc
• Knowledge of Fixed Income and Equity investment types (i.e. Municipal Bonds, Asset Backed Securities, Corp Bonds, etc.), Security Master concepts, Ratings processes, and daily Pricing processes
• Knowledge of data transmission concepts and processes such as FTP, APIs, etc
Related Systems/Software Experience
• Advent APX (Advent Portfolio Exchange) or similar portfolio accounting product
• Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS or CRD) or similar Order Management system
• Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, SSRS, QlikView, Salesforce, Sharepoint, Excel, Visio, Python, Snowflake
