ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP) is one of six departments/schools in the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences and Department faculty are integral members of the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute. The department promotes academic excellence by providing leadership and opportunities that enhance manpower development and personal growth in a fully engaged learner-centered environment. The mission of the department is to promote the health and quality of life of people with mental and substance use disorders by creating, evaluating, disseminating and translating state-of-the art knowledge to support effective practice across behavioral health and criminal justice systems.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports departmental efforts in obtaining external grant funding including proposal and budget development, reviewing and routing research related agreements through various departments for review, providing assistance and guidance in the administrative review and funding process of sponsored awards for faculty, and acting as a primary contact between the department's principal investigators and Sponsored Research.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with grant proposals and research administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consults in the pre-award development of proposals for external funding; reviews funding announcement and guidelines for proposals; works with researchers to develop budgets, determine timelines, and discuss collaboration strategy if other institutions or researchers are involved; prepares and uploads documents into the funding agency's online proposal submission repository, such as eRA Commons, grants.gov, and ASSIST; prepares USF internal forms; establishes checklists for documentation and narratives required for the submission; and works with Sponsored Research to complete the proposal submission.
Reviews contracts from state, local or private entities, business associate agreements, and data use agreements with principal investigator; routes contracts to Sponsored Research for further review and deemed necessary by either General Counsel or Sponsored Research for approval and execution.
Assists with post-award oversight and administrative support to research investigators and project staff including underwrites, award set-up, sub-recipient agreements, cost sharing, obtaining sponsor approvals for budget changes, submission of reports to sponsors, compliance issues, award continuations, no-cost extensions, and award terminations.
Keeps statistics on department research activities by maintaining internal spreadsheets that track the number of proposals submitted, proposals submitted, proposals submitted per investigator, total dollar amount of proposals, number of federal proposals, total number of contracts received and processed, and effective indirect rate on proposals.
Performs other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of professional administrative experience; or a Master's degree. Progressively responsible related experience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis
PREFERRED:
Two years of experience in a University research setting with a majority focus on preparing grant and contract proposals including federally supported funding. CRA-USF or national CRA certification. Experience with Microsoft Software Suite, including Excel and Word. Experience with USF's FAST and GEMS systems. Experience with eRA Commons, grants.gov, and ASSIST. Experience reviewing and completing award set up for Florida State and local agency contracts and agreements.
