Job Description
Assistant Director of Exceptional Children
Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children
Pay Scale: Central Office Administrator Scale Classified II
Purpose : Employee is responsible for daily operational tasks of the district related to the provision of special education and related services.  The employee assists the Director of Exceptional Children with administrative tasks including but not limited to supervision of staff, financial management, program development and implementation and legal matters.
Qualifications :
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (or higher) in Special Education
• Master’s Degree or higher in Educational Leadership with Administrative Licensure
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience teaching or overseeing special education services
• Preferred 2+ years’ experience in a central office leadership position
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
• Knowledge of laws governing students with disabilities
• Knowledge of policies and procedures necessary for the provision of special education and related services
• Knowledge of administrative responsibilities in human resources and finance
• Knowledge of federal and state reporting, audit and other monitoring processes
• Ability to lead diverse teams
• Ability to problem-solve with administrators and parents
• Ability to develop, implement and monitor programs and plans at the district level
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement and monitor the daily operational procedures of the EC Department
• Supervise and evaluate staff
• Activities pertaining to Human Resources and Finance
• Participate in any audit, reporting or legal processes
• Represent the EC Department in the absence of the Director
• Collaborate with district leadership, outside agencies and families
