ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
USF Information Technology (USF IT) provides technology services and support for the University of South Florida. The IT team, led by the Vice President and CIO, provides the following services: Administrative Services, Client Support, Communication Services, Teaching and Learning, Analytics and Reporting, Mobile and Web Services, Consulting Services, Cybersecurity Service and Research Technologies.
POSITION SUMMARY:
USF has over 2000 classroom and computer lab technology systems that require managing by the Desktop Engineering (DE) team. This position will be responsible for working with the DE architect and team to ensure that the computers in these labs are up to date in terms of the hardware being in working order and that the systems have been updated with the most appropriate technology solutions. The lead will be responsible for communication and coordination of refreshes, upgrades, etc. and ensuring that clients receive timely notification of things that may affect their usage. This position will work with clients to assess what IT can do to enhance end user technology performance related to desktop engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as tech lead for DE Lab and Classroom Support. Help manage the workflow and operational tasks associated with both the hardware and software configurations for the 2000+ computers that reside in designated computer labs and in classroom situations. Provide day to day work load direction to Lab Analyst.
Continually evaluate software and hardware for upgrades. Work with DE team to analyze software requests and requirements needed by University faculty and students. Evaluate network configuration and security issues and escalates problems.
Serve as relationship manager between Desktop Engineering and other teams such as Service Management, Networking, System and Cloud Services as needed in relationship to lab and classroom devices. Provide coordination and communication for refreshes or upgrades that may affect end users.
Creates reporting and provides usage data, system age and overall health of lab and classroom computers.
Assists with deployed inventory for IT Asset Management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training and two years of IT related work experience; or a Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and three years of IT related work experience, OR a combination of six years of IT related work experience and validated training. Preparation for a relevant IT certification, validated through certification requirements and documentation of completion, is considered to be related training.
