Job Description
Administrative Assistant
In this position, you will play a crucial role in helping Bird TLC effectively and efficiently fulfill our mission: To provide primary medical treatment, rehabilitative care, and potential release for sick and injured wild birds and present education that instills understanding and appreciation for wild birds and their habitats.
You will be involved in all aspects of our organization - community relations, rehabilitation, and education - gain experience in the nonprofit sector and help give Alaska's wild birds a second chance at a free and wild life.
Administrative duties: works with the Executive Director and Avian Care Director
1.     Answer phones and respond to questions regarding injured and orphaned birds, connect callers with other resources if necessary, and reply to inquiries about the status of birds in the clinic
2.     Greet and assist members of the public who bring birds to the clinic
3.     Oversee intake of in-kind food donations
4.     Update website
5.     Serve as a backup to pick up birds at the airport during normal business hours or after-hours (must have a valid Alaska driver’s license) and to intake birds in the rehabilitation clinic (may require learning basic bird handling skills)
6.     General bookkeeping including accounts payable and receivable and monthly reconciliation
7.     Maintain basic safety and emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, etc.
8.     Maintain office supplies
9.     Maintain Amazon Wishlist
Fundraising duties: works with the Executive Director
1.     Prepare acknowledgment letters to donors
2.     Manage donor database
3.     Assist in planning fundraising events, including the annual live and silent auction, and other special events
4.     Assist with other fundraising efforts as needed
Education Program duties: works with the Education and Behavior Curator
1.     Assist with the planning and coordination of education programs including coordinating volunteers; scheduling programs; billing customers; sending confirmations to attendees, and sending out post-program surveys.
2.     Track the number of educational presentations for purposes of reporting to the Board of Directors and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
3.     Other assistance as needed
Preference will be given to applicants with any of the following previous work experience:
1.      Customer service or other work with the public
2.      General Accounting
3.      Event planning
4.      Fundraising
5.      Community outreach and education
6.      Any of the following software programs: Quickbooks, Little Green Light, Auctria, Google Drive, or Squarespace
Wage: $18/hour, 40-hour work week.  Work schedule may vary seasonally. There is the possibility for some work to be performed remotely.
This position includes paid leave. We are not able to provide medical benefits or a retirement plan at this time.
