Job Summary Provides financial advocacy counseling to patients/families to help assist individuals with pharmacy co-pays, manufacturer programs, and/or insurance benefits. # Job Responsibilities Develops relationships with patient assistance programs (PAP), manufacturer, and other assistance programs to secure funding for Oncology and Rheumatology Patients for their infusion medications. Maintains and updates a knowledge base of cancer and rheumatology diagnosis and drugs used in their treatment. Implements the operational process of initiating, completing, and appropriate follow up for financial assistance for both underinsured and uninsured patients. Interacts with patients and families with a variety of developmental and socio-cultural backgrounds. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient and family while serving as a liaison between patients, physicians, advocacy funds, and other oncology and rheumatology pharmacies. Maintains and updates understanding of health insurance and pharmacy benefit coverage. Navigates the system to find resources that best fits the patient#s needs, aids patients by explaining the process, assists in filling out applications, and going over the documents that will be required to complete the application. Provides information to patients and families in order to counsel and educate regarding their manufacturer sponsored co-pay. Answers questions regarding patient insurance benefit structure for needed medications and provides co-pay amounts for their treatment. Maintains professional relationships and conveys relevant information to other members of the healthcare team within facility and any applicable referral agencies. Initiates communication with peers about priorities as well as collaborate with cross functional teams on operational and sales initiatives. Qualifications Associate#s degree or higher in related field required upon hire A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree. No experience required No licensure/certification/registration required Skills and Attributes Requires critical thinking and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational and visual presentation skills.
