FET061 Mechanic 2 (PG-G)
JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, maintains, diagnoses, inspects and/or repairs engines, vehicles and other motorized equipment.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, maintains, diagnoses and repairs/rebuilds gasoline and/or diesel-powered engines, vehicles and other motorized equipment. Tests, inspects and evaluates vehicles/equipment for proper and safe operation upon completion of repairs. May assign work to other repair personnel and supervise their repair activities. May dispatch tractor-trailer operators.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate's/Vocational/Technical degree in area of assignment from an accredited college or university AND One year of experience in area of assignment
• OR Two years of experience in the area of assignment
• OR One year of experience at the lower level Mechanic 1 (FET060) or position equivalent.
• Note: Some positions may require specific licensure.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License.
• Two years’ experience in the repair of gasoline and/or diesel powered engines, vehicles and mechanical equipment
• Two years’ experience repairing cars, light duty trucks and passenger vans
• Ability to serve as lead worker to lower level mechanics.
• Experience reading, writing and comprehending material essential to this position.
• Experience understanding and applying shop manual settings, diagrams, capacities, and instructions.
• Experience understanding and following oral instructions to perform mechanical repairs without supervision.
• Ability to physically lift or assist in lifting heavy equipment such as:  brake drums, transmissions, and engine blocks and to perform moderately laboring work.
• Committed to providing quality customer service.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks effectively over a long period of time.
• This position is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months
• Three years’ experience repairing heavy equipment such as tandem/single axle dump trucks, motor graders, backhoes, front end loaders, excavators, dozers, etc.
• Must provide own set of hand tools adequate to perform the functions of this position.

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
