Our Metallurgical Engineers provide support and leadership to our automotive, industrial and Aerospace product lines. The Metallurgical Engineer will address quality issues related to the area of support, and will evaluate and develop products, processes, and equipment based on customer requirements.
Responsibilities include:
• Working with support staff, shift leaders, and the hourly work force
• Metallurgical and technical support of rolling practices for 100” continuous hot mill and reversing mills
• Leadership for hot rolling mill surface quality decision making
• Responsibility for hot rolled product coil and sheet attributes
• Support new product development initiatives
• Initiate and support cost saving activities
• Provide product support to internal and external customers
• Analyze product and cost data for continuous improvement activities
• Problem solving of surface conditions
• Problem solving of mechanical property failures
• Work closely with cold rolling, batch thermal operations, and sheet finishing to assure product quality attributes are met
• Support the Commercial organization on R&D project initiatives
• Specification reviews for product or rolling capability
• Interface with Marketing on product capabilities
• Develop understanding of coil and flat sheet flow paths for product expertise
• Represent metallurgy, quality, and rolling in cross functional teams
• Representing Quality with product and process decisions
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 3+ months (internship equivalent is accepted) and up to 8 years of related experience
• The majority of our locations/positions are subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for these position.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Quality system experience (TS 16949 or AS 9100)
• Understanding of metallurgical structures
• Lean manufacturing experience
• Experience with Statistical Methods, Engineering Calculations, Physical Metallurgy, Mechanical Metallurgy, Phase Diagrams, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Metals Solidification Theory, Thermodynamics, and Material Processing
• Experience in the metals or aluminum industry
