ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Engineer Facilities & Safety department is the central office in the College of Engineering responsible for shipping/receiving packages, lab inspections, building maintenance, and maintenance/repair of machinery equipment. This department is dedicated to providing quality facilities that are safe and to positively impact these spaces in which we learn, teach and work. This department consist of a Facilities & Safety Mgr, Safety & Compliance Officer, 3 Sr. Research Machinists, and a Sr. Shipping & Receiving Clerk.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Shipping and Receiving Clerk in the College of Engineering will perform a variety of shipping and receiving tasks including receiving, inspecting and distributing supplies and equipment. The Senior Shipping and Receiving Clerk will also be responsible for handling medical and scientific supplies, including chemicals or biologic agents that are specialized in nature and may require special handling and storage. This job reports to the Facilities and Safety Manager and receives supervision in the form of daily assignments and work-flow, along with special projects and tasks to be completed, as assigned by the Facilities and Safety Management team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives, sorts, records, stores, and issues chemicals, biologic agents, medical and scientific supplies and equipment, and other supplies and equipment of a specialized nature. Obtains verification of materials delivered.  Reaches out to vendors and conducts research when necessary to initiate purchase requisitions.
Maintains inventory control records, including Safety Data Sheets where applicable. Ensures that chemicals and other potentially hazardous substances are properly handled, stored, or delivered and tracked in University Chemical Inventory database. Responsible for receiving and deciding how chemicals should properly handled whether it needs to be stored in a refrigerated or freezer. Enters the chemical into a chemical database and notify the end user to come pick up.
Maintains the college's property inventory and manage the college's recycling programs. Provides general assistance to faculty, staff, students, and project contractors who contact the office in person, by phone, or through electronic correspondence. Performs Internet research and space planning including searching for project materials and shop tools, furniture associated with office moves and general office/building repairs and renovations, creating room and office layouts, arranging furniture moves and transfers. Prepares forms and documents related to ongoing facilities projects, facilities maintenance requests and work orders, purchasing & p-card transactions, key requests, machine shop costs and invoices.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Prior experience with the safe handling of chemicals is preferred, and experience with operating material handling equipment is desirable. This job requires physical abilities such as trunk strength, manual dexterity, and wrist-finger movement in order to perform the essential functions. The operation of material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and fork lifts, along with operation of motor vehicles or golf carts, is required.
