Job Description
Location: Owensboro, KY
Job Title: Supervisor, Logistics
Department: Operations
Reports to: Logistics Manager
FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt
Comments:
The Supervisor, Logistics will work for Mizkan America, Inc. at the Owensboro, Kentucky (Ragu) sauce plant. The plant is a high speed processing and packaging facility which produces sauces for both the Ragú and Bertolli pasta sauce brands. This position will report to the Logistics Manager and is responsible for all plant logistics activities and related supply chain activities of Mizkan America, Inc. This job description reflects assignment of essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
Overall Responsibility:
Responsible for assuring compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, food quality and personnel policy compliance. Has overall responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the palletizing, receiving and shipping teams and associates assigned to the position. Supports team objectives by providing adequate resources and materials necessary to work safely and maintain a high level of production efficiency within the annual budget plan. Provides leadership through example, motivates individuals, builds team spirit and counsels associates to achieve excellence. Supports implementation and development of continuous improvement though coaching, mentoring and annual objectives.
Daily Responsibilities and as Required:
1. Observes teams and ensures compliance with safety, health and environmental rules and guidelines. Corrects unsafe acts and conditions.
2. Support process to maintain finished goods, packaging and raw material inventory and related supplies.
3. Coordinates activities of teams to maximize labor effectiveness and assure adequate breaks and compliance to budget.
4. Completes daily reports.
5. Lead teams in weekly scheduled meetings.
6. Work closely with production teams to support OEE targets.
7. Work with 3 rd party logistics providers and warehouses to ensure excellent customer service.
8. Order and approve supply needs for the team/area.
9. Stays up to date on all equipment and processes in the area.
10. As required, performs performance evaluations to develop and motivate good performance.
11. Is able to improve and develop team members’ performance through effective coaching, and ensure compliance with policy guidelines for corrective steps.
12. Monitors completion of preventative inspections and restorative work in effort to support reliable operation of equipment in area.
13. Manage forklift fleet for area and work with vendor to ensure equipment is operational and control cost.
Challenges:
1. Responsible for all inbound deliveries and outbound shipments on assigned shift.
2. Provide world-class customer service to assure accurate and on-time delivery to internal and external customers, thereby ensuring good customer relations and future orders.
3. Lead, coach and motivate shift crews in all areas including safety, quality, efficiency, loss management, and continuous improvement (CI).
4. Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities proactively and re-prioritize on a daily basis to accommodate the changing business requirements.
5. Must be comfortable interfacing with various corporate roles and personnel without being face to face.
6. Must be able to troubleshoot and quickly initiate actions required to resolved problems.
7. Must be able to organize and manage time effectively
8. Must be able to make quick decisions while collaboratively analyzing and pinpointing problems.
9. Must be capable of using strategic influence to gain support for desired process changes; functions as a business partner with the plant leadership to provide leadership.
10. Change Catalyst for Continuous Improvement; ensures that teams understand and implement all Continuous Improvement principles.
11. Empower teams to maximize C.I. concepts and enable time for strategic planning.
Internal Communication:
1. Clear and effective oral and written communication with internal and external team members on the production schedules.
2. Foster cooperation and consensus among team members, and support Positive Employee Relations at all times.
Qualifications/Requirements:
1. A minimum of two years supervisory experience in shipping, receiving or other logistics related field.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related field preferred.
3. Hands on experience in logistics/warehousing preferred.
4. Willing to work any shift to meet demands of the position.
