Full Job Description POSITION PURPOSE:
To foster the healthy development of children by supervising and coordinating daily classroom activities and providing a safe and nurturing environment for children 5-13 years to learn and grow. Plan and coordinate daily activities and hands-on learning environment based on state licensing and National accreditation standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Direct supervision of children: Maintains constant visual and auditory monitoring and promotes a safe learning environment.
• Student Engagement: Creatively and consistently engages children in learning that is individualized according to each child’s needs and treats each child with dignity and respect. This includes ensuring that educational services are culturally and linguistically competent and responsive.
• Education: Provides planned learning activities that facilitate and inspire the learning and development of children and that are consistent with the curriculum model adopted by LELA
• Modelling: Consistently demonstrates appropriate interactions with children and co-workers, teaching and modelling social skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, and self-regulation skills consistent with the behavior model adopted by LELA.
• Parent Engagement: Effectively communicates with parents (in verbal and written form) information regarding program activities and child progress, behavior, successes and concerns. Creates a parent friendly environment where parents are encouraged to participate in their child’s learning. Schedules parent conferences at least twice a year and is available to conference with parents as necessary.
• Professionalism: Performs in a professional manner consistent with job description
• Classroom Management/Environment: Maintains a positive, energizing, and organized classroom and schedule. Is able to effectively address classroom behaviors by teaching appropriate conflict resolution skills, self-regulation skills, problem solving skills, reinforcing positive behaviors, and maintaining the positive esteem of children in a way that is consistent with the behavior model adopted by LELA.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Completes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintains a creative, positive, engaging learning environment in which children can develop to their potential
• Attends all staff meetings, required trainings, and special events held by LELA.
• Notifies the Director in a timely manner in the event of absence.
• Completes training necessary to perform position and necessary for professional growth.
• Completes lesson plans and activities in a timely manner and is consistently prepared for the classroom each day.
• Facilitates a team atmosphere by working in partnership with other agency staff and promotes a positive working environment.
• Represents the agency and programs in a positive manner to clients, community organizations and the public, in general.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be able to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• High School Diploma or GED, Bachelors degree preferred
• 2 years experience in ECEC or related field
• Professing Christian and active in a local church
• Must possess knowledge of the following
• Developmental stages
• Effective teacher-child interactions
• Effective childcare discipline management
• Appropriate parent and child communication
• Effective classroom environments specific to ages/stages

REQUIREMENTS:
Personal Characteristics: Patience, affection for children, flexibility, energy, organizational skills, ability to multi-task
Communication: Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to engage difficult children and parents; ability to present and share information/questions in a group setting
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and schedule form.
Hearing: Able to hear conversations in a loud environment/classroom; able to monitor verbal exchanges between children; able to discern important information
Visual Abilities: Ability to visually monitor children at all times and from reasonable distances; ability to read from a books and other learning materials; ability operate office equipment and a motor vehicle; ability to see and hear within normal limits, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Physical Abilities: Ability to sit, stand and walk, use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, run after children, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
• Ability to occasionally life and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work extensively and for extended periods of time with children
• Able to successfully complete the Crisis Prevention and Intervention training utilized by the agency
Compliance: Complies with TDFPS Minimum Standards and Academy Policies and Procedures and all applicable federal, state, local, and contract agency laws, rules and regulations
Vehicle Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license with no more than 3 points
• Proof of insurance that meets agency requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the center is usually high due to the number of children. Employee may be required to change diapers, etc. and may encounter bodily fluids and must practice Universal Precautions.
