Position Summary – Sr Associate Accountant
The Sr Associate Accountant will play an integral role within the finance domain responsible for planning, budgeting, forecasting, analytics and reporting of New York Life Direct’s expense and staffing results. This role will interact with key stake holders of the organization and various members of the Finance department. This position requires excellent analytical and communication skill sets to ensure requests are understood, processed, and delivered within applicable time frames, and in accordance with New York Life’s accounting policies and specific technical requirements. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a cross-functional team is expected.
Responsibilities
• Assigned Finance Business Partner for select areas of the business
• Assist with the development of expense and staffing budgets
• Perform monthly expense accounting close activities with all required reporting and analytics
• Develop accurate financial reporting packages including planned vs. actual performance, the investigation and understanding of variances, drivers, and deviations from plan
• Prepare ad hoc financial analysis, management, and metrics reports
• Look for ways to create efficiencies, improve processes, and deliver effective reporting for the operation

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, or similar; advanced education preferred (CPA, MBA), but not required
• 5+ plus years of relative experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, and/or expense accounting and reporting
• Analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills
• Driven to improve processes and create efficiencies
• Proven track record demonstrating ability to multi-task, organize work and projects across both short and long timespans
• SAP, Tableau, Business Intelligence tools a plus
• Advanced in Excel (pivots, complex formulas, v-look-up, etc.)
• Knowledge of expense accounting
• Ability to work with minimal supervision to achieve desired results
