ONCOLOGY PHARM TECH COORDINATOR Allied Health & Clinical Lab Hours: as scheduled Evening Shift - Full Time Paygrade/Wages/Salary Info: NE N22 - 19.6500 - 24.6500
Position Highlights Initiating or receiving communications with patient provider team members to facilitate patient care: assisting in patient appointment review, medical records review, treatment authorization review, processing of treatment orders, including investigational medications utilized in clinical trials in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. Registered Pharmacy technician may also perform compounding, preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical and investigational medication preparations following USP standards and hospital policy, inventory procurement and receiving; stock/supply replenishment, support pharmacy leadership in assisting with efficient inventory stewardship, keeping records and making reports required by law, and processing of documents required by the hospital. Help develop didactic materials and coordinate precepting, training and orienting new technician employees, students, and residents. Help evaluate competency of trainees and students. Develop and implement workflow processes to improve operation efficiency. Assist in keeping pharmacy operations compliant with local, state, and federal regulatory processes and/or policies. Ideal Candidate The Ideal Candidate will Have a Bachelor degree; Associate Degree is required Will have education in one of the following areas: Pharmacy Management, Business, Medical Assisting, Communication, Health Information Technology, Accounting, Finance or related field Be a Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) Have a Hazardous Drug Management Certificate Have a CITI Certification (Applicable for investigational Drug Service Only) Have Cerner Systems EHR, Pyxis ES Have prior Hospital and/or Specialty Pharmacy experience Have prior Oncology and/or lnvestigational Pharmacy experience Have prior interdepartmental coordination experience # Responsibilities (not a complete list) Non-sterile and Sterile and Compounding#- support non-sterile and sterile compounding of both non- hazardous and hazardous medications. Coordinators in these areas will prepare parenteral dosage forms utilizing aseptic techniques in accordance with departmental policies, standards set forth in current USP, state # federal regulations and GCP guidelines for investigational medications. # Medication Order Processing and Medication Record Review#- Be able to transcribe medication orders into computerized medical record system ensuring all information is complete; Be able to fully process prescriptions and new orders for checking by a pharmacist. Ensure entry accuracy does not vary more than 2% from the established ongoing department error rate and that orders are entered by established department priority to ensure timely processing of orders and minimize lost charges or wasted medication preparations. # Fulfilling Medication Orders#- Fills medication orders in the proper order of priority, accurately counted, with neat and accurate labels affixed to the preparation. Proper procedures and documentation in inventory management systems are used during the fulfillment of the medication order # Delivery of Medications#- Prepares and delivers medication ensuring proper storage location requirements are met based on the stability needs of the product; Maintains appropriate medication inventory levels and rotation of stock in automated dispensing units and other medication storage areas per daily report needs and maintains all necessary records. Organizes work by priority to ensure timely delivery # Quality Assurance#- Performs routine quality assurance tasks, including checking extemporaneously manufactured medications, commercially available medications, I.V. solutions and equipment for expiration dates, recalls, or signs of deterioration # Inventory Management#- Orders and receives medications and supplies in accordance with inventory control, purchasing policies and/or per clinical trial requirements for investigational medications. Maintains all medication and supply inventory levels within the predetermined stocking level, calling attention to needs for revision, or perpetual supply problems. Performs accurate cycle counts in medication storage area as assigned. # Regulatory Documentation Compliance#- Documentation of daily regulatory monitoring parameters for clean room operation, including facilities temperature monitoring and facilitating follow-up of any out of range para meters. Including documentation review and preparation for clinical trial audits and sponsor monitor visits. Assist in assigning clean room monitoring and documentation functions to other technicians to ensure timely completion # Coordinate Student, Resident and New Technician Employee Training#- Serves as a functional technician education expert for the team. Applies advanced knowledge and skill while performing duties of a technician coordinator. Applies expertise in on-boarding new team members # Coordinate Daily Pharmacy Technician Workflow#- Perform required audits of regulatory documentation compliance. Coordinate pharmacy services to achieve effective and exceptional patient/customer service. Develop, implement, and maintain processes to ensure the pharmacy site is efficient and effective. # Credentials # Qualifications Associate Degree (required) in one of the following fields of study: Pharmacy Management, Business, Medical Assisting, Communication, Health Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, or a related Field.##In lieu of an Associate degree, 4 years# experience in a hospital setting in a technician role can substitute. Registered Pharmacy Technician 3 years as a Registered Pharmacy Technician {RPhT) 3 years# experience with unit dose, pharmacy orders and inventory computer systems. 3 years# experience Pharmacy Automation software and equipment and adequate navigation of EHR systems. 3 years# experience with preparation of sterile intravenous medications including hazardous medications and/or investigational medications used the treatment of cancer with competent understanding of current USP clean room standards and GCP practice guidelines - And/Or - 3 years# experience with inventory management of investigational medications. #
