ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The College of Public Health is a complex college with approximately 4500 undergraduate and graduate students. The College has a total budget of over $70 M, including over $25M+ in research funding awarded to its faculty investigators. There are over 400 faculty and staff appointed in the College with 100+ plus graduate & student assistants appointed each semester.
The Operations team provides business operations support including travel, p-card, room scheduling; event management; facilities management and classroom set up and support; and technology/web. Our goal is to serve as a resource for the College's faculty, staff and students while identifying and creating opportunities to work as efficiently as possible across the College.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position is the management and oversight of the College of Public Health Laboratories. The manager advises the Deans and research investigators of any concerns and makes recommendations as to laboratory safety and management issues. The manager serves as the liaison between the College and other USF units, such as Research Compliance and Environmental Health and Safety, as well as off-campus vendors.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of and ability to interpret general lab safety policies and procedures as related to equipment inventory, chemical inventory and management, hazardous wastes and fire codes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interpreting USF policies and procedures as related to the laboratory environment, including equipment inventory, chemical inventory and management, hazardous wastes, fire codes and general lab safety policies and procedures. Make recommendations to the Dean's office and the PI's with regard to lab safety and management issues. Serve as a liaison between the College and other USF units such as Bio-safety and Environmental Health & Safety.
Ensure the upkeep and maintenance of lab spaces and equipment at CPH, NEC and IDRB, with attention to the unique requirements of facilities such as the insectary and the BSL3 suite. Maintain an inventory of lab equipment and history of repairs and maintenance. Work with vendors to price, install, repair and maintain laboratory equipment and initiate service agreements. Coordinate with PI's, lab managers and building managers to schedule preventive maintenance and other service requests as needed.
Work with USF Property department to locate equipment, request relief and transfer of equipment. Arrange for appropriate salvage of surplus or obsolete equipment in accordance with USF Asset Management policies and procedures. Update the status of laboratory space and occupancy as needed.
Maintain chemical inventories and storage of hazardous chemicals and waste, maintain up to date safety data sheets, arrange for hazardous waste pickup and disposal. Oversee the storage of bio-hazards and bio-hazardous waste, arrange for bio-hazard pickup and disposal as needed. Prepare for annual lab reviews with EH&S and correct any deficiencies. Assist the Radiation Safety office with semiannual radioactive source inventory check.
Assist with the ordering of supplies, chemicals, reagents, gases and other laboratory materials. Make recommendations on the purchase of new equipment as requested. Reconcile Pcard and use Pcard within the limits of USF guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field related to the discipline of the work, and one year of related experience. Work experience related to the discipline of the work may be substituted for the degree.
PREFERRED:
One to three years related experience. Laboratory technical certifications/licenses.
