Job Description
American Youth Academy is an Islamic-based private school located in Tampa, Florida; one of the fastest-growing communities in the entire country. AYA was established in 1992 and currently serves 760 students in grades pre-K through 12, with enrollment increasing every year. As enrollment continues to grow, we are looking for additional staff and administrators to join our team to help us with our next step into the future.*Job Type: *Full-Time, Salary, Exempt, 12 months.*Candidate Qualifications: ** Bachelor's Degree (Preferably in Finance / Accounting)* Post Secondary degree in accounting (or equivalent work experience)* 2-5 years of accounting experience* Proficiency with QuickBooks (at least 2 years of experience)* Advanced knowledge of Excel and various accounting software programs* Keen attention to detail*Position Overview*The main activities of the Junior Accountant role include accurate data capture and analysis, source document verification and reconciliation; preparation and maintenance of accounting records; and processing of financial transactions per accounting requirements. Responsibilities will be added depending on the knowledge shown and the ability to learn. In addition to the above, the role also involves the following responsibilities:*Major Responsibilities and Duties: ** Accounts Payable, includes processing invoices, following up with vendors, and resolving discrepancies promptly. Vendor maintenance in SAP.* Ensure that payroll is conducted accurately, timely, and meets all local, state, and federal requirements regarding pension, taxes, and related employee deductions.* Ensure that accounts payable and purchasing documents are processed efficiently, accurately and promptly.* Works with city personnel to ensure that all revenues are accepted and accounted for appropriately.* Prepare monthly forecasts and cash flow statements/analyses.* Liaison with the external auditor to ensure thorough accurate and timely annual audit.* Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines* Processing Employee expense reports, verifying expenses are within the company guidelines, correcting errors, questioning abnormal expenses, and entering into the finance system.* Company credit card reconciliations and communication for obtaining supporting documentation.*Other Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned: ** Posting and processing journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded* Accounts Receivable and Payable, including processing payments, producing statements of accounts, and collections on overdue accounts.* Updating accounts payable and perform reconciliations when required.* Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded* Update accounts receivable and issue invoices* Update accounts payable and performs reconciliations* Assist with reviewing expenses, payroll records, etc. as assigned* Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when neededPrepare and submit weekly/monthly reports* Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings* Assist with other accounting projects*Ability To: ** Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.* Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.* Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.* Demonstrate the ability to use computers for word processing, data management, and Telecommunications.* Maintain security and confidentiality of records.* Effective time management skills* Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment*Physical Demand: *The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job successfully and are not meant to be all-inclusive.
