As the Commodity Manager, you will be responsible driving outsourcing strategies and finding new that allow for better quality, cost and performance leading and working with Supplier Relationship Teams.  Establish, implement the outsourcing funnel by evaluating supplier capabilities and performance to select the most resilient supplier base. Evaluate suppliers on financial and commercial performance.  Optimize supply reliability of purchased components in the commercial release lifecycle.  Work with suppliers to reduce lead time and cost to meet Gross Profit (GP) commitments.  Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align on best value decision tool recommendations to optimize resources for the most critical projects. Set clear expectations and standards with suppliers to ensure reduced risk of component availability and quality. This position reports to the Sr. Manager NPI Procurement.
Responsibilities:
•    Leads sourcing initiatives to identify the right suppliers to supply raw or sub-assemblies to support business G&Os (Goals & Objectives)
•    Drives robust implementation of strategy and communication plan for defined buying channels and contract strategies
•    Understand business partner requirements and ensure consistent alignment on supplier strategy creation and execution
•    Present Sourcing vision and strategy, business impact and project status to Sr. Leadership for endorsement, resources, and support
•    Tie results of sourcing led projects to P&L, customer expansion, innovation and growth
•    Prepare and execute complex RFP/RFQs.  Perform should cost analysis while leading supplier negotiations
•    Influences business decision making to deliver value improvements to drive competitive advantages
•    Partner with R&D, MFG , quality  & category to drive upstream alignment on sourcing strategies for the benefit of supply reliability
•    Use J&J Toolkits, such as Best Value Tool to ensure supplier selection decisions are optimized
•    Present and share finding with broader audience to demonstrate supplier capabilities and high decision quality
•    Ensure sourcing decisions are aligned with long term category strategies and that supplier selection decisions maximize overall value to J&J
•    Lead supplier selection team processes for outsourcing of Machining and structural assemblies
•    Communicate project progress throughout the transition process to senior leadership
•    Leads meetings with internal teams such as: R&D (Research and Development), quality, materials & manufacturing
•    Analyze existing supplier base to proactively address underperforming suppliers and create a plan to exit
•    Create sourcing strategy to include segmentation, exit and growth strategies
•    Conduct top level reviews with suppliers that include holistic supplier performance management and create meaningful progress on Supplier Development Plans
•    Drive improvements in quality, delivery and cost across targeted suppliers
Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s Degree required
•    Mechanical or electrical engineering background highly desirable
•    Experience with Machining Commodity preferred
•    Minimum of 6 years of related experience in a Procurement, Manufacturing, Supply Chain/Operations, Consulting, R&D or Engineering field
•    Supplier evaluation and assessment experience required
•    Knowledge of common manufacturing processes required including working with ISO 13485 certification
•    Understanding of supplier qualification requirements as well as design tollgates
•    Professional (APICS-CPIM or CSCP and/or PMP or CAPM ISM, Lean, Six Sigma) Certification is desirable
•    Strong communication, influencing, negotiating, and interpersonal skills
•    Intellectual curiosity and capacity as well as self-awareness and adaptability
•    Previous experience in highly matrixed large organization is desired
•    May require up to 20% to 25% domestic or international travel
