Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $49,500 - $62,000 annual
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is an interdisciplinary laboratory where the candidate will be expected to contribute to several aspects of the project related to lipid mediators and inflammation biology. The ideal candidate will use this position as an opportunity to train team members on current exciting project and share new skills to advance lipid biology.
Halade lab is located downtown at the state-of-the-art building as part of the Heart Institute, Morsani College of Medicine and Taneja College of Pharmacy, which is designed to develop a collaborative environment and promote cross pollination of ideas across disciplines/colleges (https://www.usf.edu/water-street-tampa/). Our lab utilizes innovative approaches such as mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and high resolution microscopy to study the endogenous molecules that modulate immune responses in cardiac repair and heart failure that will one day be used to treat patients.
DUTIES:
• Conduct research on high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) measurements (Sciex6500-MS instrumentation) and computational data-mining/statistical analyses/biological information network generation.
• Optimize extraction methodology, protocols, and perform mass spectrometry omics measurements on a variety of samples for the inflammation-resolution biology in heart failure.
• Assist/train TEAM members and collaborator (Hariom Yadav) in experimental design for various bioactive lipid measurements utilizing a high-performance LC-MS/MS platform. Independently design and test new approaches for improved extraction and quantitation for more comprehensive measurements.Engage in interdisciplinary research using heart physiology and heart failure pathology for solving biological problems
• Develop new methods for short chain fatty acids (microbiome samples), develop new methods for microbiome metabolites and serum/plasma sample using targeted and comprehensive untargeted approaches. Present research outcome at internal meetings and prepare reports, informatics diagram.
• Organize project specific data, validate methodology, prepare peer-reviewed reports and manuscripts. Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements. Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Master's degree in a natural science related to the specific area of research and two years of research experience. Doctoral study in a directly related field may substitute for the required experience. There is no substitution of experience allowed for the Master's degree, as that is a mandatory qualiification for positions assigned to this job class.
Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that the candidate be in the final stage of defense or graduation or have earned a PhD in a chemical or biological sciences field with a proven track record of publications. It is also preferred that the candidate have specific experience in cardiovascular biology, lipid methodology for measurement of targeted/untargeted bioactive mediators using mass spectrometry.
