JOB SUMMARY:
The primary function of this job is to manage and direct the sales efforts of a regional company’s sales and marketing Specialists for bulk, micro-bulk and specialty gases and related equipment and services; identify and develop strategic actions with potential and existing customers to implement growth initiatives in key product categories such as refrigerants, environmental products and process chemicals; develop and implement strategies for customer retention; manage key personnel who manage regional field service sales personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
• Demonstrates and ensures staff alignment with Airgas Safety Pledge and 12 Life Saving Rules.
• Ensures compliance with all Specialty, Medical and Food Gas Standard Operating Procedures and ISO requirements.
• Exemplifies, promotes and develops safe work behaviors. Provides direct coaching to improve associates safety behaviors resulting in an improved safety culture.
• Performs safety incident investigations recommending corrective actions to eliminate recurrences.
• Develops training tools to support Airgas’s safety, regulatory, continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
• Ensures all applicable regulatory (OSHA, FDA, EPA) requirements are met and applicable training and recordkeeping is performed to meet departmental and location deadlines.
Personnel / Personnel Development
• Pr ovides supervision of direct reports, including Sales Specialists and Field Services team,  in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.
• Develops, coaches and directs the efforts of the Gas Specialists and Field Services team  to increase the sales and services of bulk, micro-bulk and specialty gases and equipment.
• Manages Gas Specialists and Field Services team to ensure branches and customers receive products and services as needed through the most efficient channel.
• Oversees the management of the Field Services team to ensure work related to items such as installations, required tank maintenance and bulk tank inspections are completed accurately, efficiently and on a timely basis.
• Major accountabilities include interviewing, hiring, training associates, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising and developing performance; rewarding and coaching associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Ensures subordinate matters/concerns are effectively handled.
• Consults with Human Resources regarding personnel issues including performance management and development.
Customer Service / Business Development
• Ensures all customers receive quality customer service from company Gas Specialist associates.
• Ensures Gas Specialists and Field Service Manager and Technicians are promptly and courteously handling customer inquiries and providing follow-up to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
• Ensures Gas Specialists work with Local Account Managers and Area Vice Presidents to:
• Maintain existing accounts, secure new business with existing accounts and prioritize and penetrate target accounts to secure new business;
• Assist customers with equipment set-up and demonstration as necessary;
• Prepare quotes, maintain any literature or documentation required, provide customer follow-up, and gather sales leads.
• Manages sales efforts of Gas Specialists to exceed their budgets.
• Manages portfolio of gas products
• Maintains / upgrades selling skills and technical/product knowledge.
• Works with Contract Analysts to draft customer contracts within Regional parameters for Region President review prior to execution.
Sales & Support
• Responsible for price management and working with the Region President and VP of Finance to establish and manage bulk budgets.
• Prepares annual budget and monitors fiscal performance of the group as compared to budget; controls group expenditures and costs.
• Reviews contract price file quarterly and develops proposed adjustments for Region President review prior to execution.
• Regularly reviews operational expenses with the ability to explain variances and recommend appropriate actions; prepares/executes budget optimization.
• Adheres to a sustainable process for operational files and records; completes all required paperwork accurately, timely and in compliance with various company policies and procedures, to ensure full regulatory compliance.
• Manages requests from other leaders for on time delivery of results.
• Supports the efforts of regional specialists and sales associates by coaching them as to how they can increase the sales of bulk gases for a regional company.
• Provides input to the development of strategic bulk gas marketing plans for a regional company.  Reviews regional bulk gas sales goals and monitors progress monthly.
• Plans and implements bulk gas product training for regional company.
• Acts as a technical resource for regional company sales personnel in the area of bulk gases.
• Identifies and develops strategic alliances with group purchasing organizations in order to leverage Airgas’ distribution capability as required.
• Documents and coordinates the distribution of competitive market activity to both management and other outside sales personnel.
• Reviews monthly bulk gas sales and gross profit by product and by territory within a regional company in order to monitor effectiveness of the sales and marketing efforts.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrates full knowledge of bulk gas applications and equipment installations.
• Leadership – Candidates must have a demonstrated knowledge and ability for using basic leadership skills to effectively engage with and manage a staff for delivery of supreme customer service.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelors’ Degree in Business, Management, Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and/or training and education.
• 5 years’ experience in the bulk gases and/or sales industries, preferably both.
• 2 years’ supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to effectively manage a wide array of personnel issues, such as coaching, counseling and performance development, performance reviews, etc.
• SAP knowledge and experience is a plus.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
• Basic knowledge of Google applications, including Sheets
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
• Frequently (34% - 67% of work time)
COMMUNICATION and/or CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS:
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write routine business reports and business correspondence in English.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and product literature using the English language.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
