Senior Network Security Engineer
What Will You Do?
The Senior Network Security Engineer is an advanced technology professional providing expertise to assure the effective performance of one or more key components of the organization’s cybersecurity enterprise environments. Seen by IT colleagues as a technical resource in their area of expertise.
The Senior Network Security Engineer will be responsible for providing architectural expertise in the planning, designing, implementing, and managing network firewalls, application firewalls, intrusion detection prevention systems. This position will be responsible for implementing complex, secure networks.
• Provides 3rd level support for network security technologies and troubleshooting for issues escalated from more junior engineers on installed technical solutions.
• Lead or participate in SWAT teams involving mission critical applications
• Supports first, second and third level operational support for production systems, when necessary
• Leads in the evaluation of new technologies relative to their domain(s) and makes strategic recommendation
• Lead network security incident response activitie
• Design, configure, administer, and document the following network security technologies within the enterprise:
o Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW)
o Network Detection and Response (NDR)
• Setting up and configuring of security technologies used within NGFWs
o SSL Decryption
o Certificates
o Security Zones
o App-ID/User-ID
• Collaborating with other security and IT teams to integrate a holistic detection and protection systems
• Provide support, engineering, configuration, and troubleshooting for the network security infrastructure
• Develop and maintain network security documentation
• Perform assessments and make recommendations to enhance and expand network security capabilities
• Assess cybersecurity risks and relevant security architectures, and provide strategic recommendations to increase security
• Participate in 24x7 on-call system and application support rotation with occasional off-hours support
• Represent the changes at the weekly change review meetings and update network diagrams and all other applicable documents.
• Insure that notification is sent to all Stakeholders for required changes/upgrades
• Works independently to design environments of increasing complexity and scope. Contributes to design specifications for cross system environments. Provides guidance to the Architecture Technical Reference Model (TRM and Guardrails within the technical expertise
• Reviews and ratifies standard operating procedures and flowcharts to support processing logic.
• Typically addresses challenges that other Network Security Engineers require support in addressing or investigating.
• Functions independently and receives limited direction. Work in progress is reviewed as required.
• Provides mentorship to other team members and guidance to those inside and outside immediate team
What Do You Need?
• 7+ years of related experience designing, deploying, configuring, and administering Firewalls, and/or other network-based security solutions (e.g., IDS, WAF, Proxy, etc.)
• Extensive experience securing a large inter network establishing and enforcing policies and monitoring access.
• Fully versed in the syntax of security platforms, and rule verification
• Must at least 1 of the following certifications: Cisco Certified CyberOps Professional or Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator or higher
• Bachelor's Degree in Information Security/Computer Science/Information Technology or related field of discipline, or equivalent work experience, Required
Technical
• Experience in designing, configuring, administering, and documenting the following network security technologies within the enterprise:
o Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW)
o Network Detection and Response (NDR)
• Setting up and configuring of security technologies used within NGFWs
o SSL Decryption
o Certificates
o Security Zones
o App-ID/User-ID
• Extensive working experience with firewall policies, security standards, and managing rulesets
• Experience with RSTP, LAG, LACP, ACL, LLDP, 802.1x, and NAC protocols
• Strong understanding of network design and troubleshooting techniques
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP and troubleshooting packet captures
• Strong understanding of switching technologies/protocols (LACP, STP, VLAN, etc.)
• Solid understanding of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, Static Routing)
• Experience applying security best practices using common frameworks such as DISA STIGs or CIS Benchmarks
• Experience designing and deploying large scale LAN/WAN networks
• Experience with redundant network protocols/topologies (HSRP, VRRP, Active/Standby, Active/Active, etc.)
• Experience with troubleshooting virtual private networks (IPsec, Route-Based, Policy-Based, NAT-T, Client-VPNs, etc.)
• Understanding DNS, DHCP & IPAM (DDI) protocols and security (Basic DNS and DHCP concepts, IPAM, IP addressing, VLANs)
• Knowledge of information security standards and best practice
• Good knowledge of associated compliance regulations (e.g. PCI)
